His Fate

They had done it. The Resistance had won and the colossal StarKiller Base was gone.

But Chewbacca had not won, in fact all he could feel was loss. The loss of his closest friend who had rescued him from captivity on Kashyyyk all those years ago, the loss of the best smuggler turned rebel leader in the galaxy, the loss of Han Solo. The whole ordeal had been one long shocking blur for Chewie. He, Han and Finn had set off to rescue Rey, take down the shields and bomb the stabilising equipment which was vital to the superweapon's existence, just a run of the mill operation for Han and Chewie. It was all going well until Han saw…

Him.

Kylo Ren, Han and Leia's son who had been lost to the Dark Side. Chewbacca wanted to stop his friend confronting the fallen Jedi but even his immense physical strength would not be able to stop a father's instinct. It even seemed that Han was getting through to him, but dread filled Chewie the moment Ben pulled out his lightsaber. Han could not see the inevitable betrayal as his son's words had convinced him that it was a gesture of him abandoning the First Order and the ways of the Dark Side.

And so, as the sun the StarKiller was draining went out, a flash of red filled the chamber as Kylo Ren murdered his father. The worst part about it was that Ren was looking right into his father's eyes as he cruelly took his life. How Ben, who Chewie had known since the boy's childhood, could rip the life away from his own father without an ounce of mercy would scar the poor Wookie for life.

Before they had embarked on their mission Chewbacca had heard Leia say that there was still good in him, but after that day's events, Chewbacca was sure that it was Han who was right.

There's too much Vader in him.
