That fic was written for chronicxxxinsanity's Song Fic challenge. Inspired by Apocalypta's "Bittersweet". The sentence in italics in the fic is a quote from the song.

Gilderoy saw her this morning. She was beautiful, like always. He loved that, she was one of the rare person who was his equal. Both were gorgeous people.

She was shopping in Diagon Alley, and watching her, elegante like always, reminded him his Hogwarts last year. They used to be close at this time.

Unfortunately, they weren't anymore. They both went their own way since their love story during their Hogwarts years ; she had gotten married, and even had a child who would probably be one of his lucky students.

The boy would have been better looking if he was his child. Not that Malfoy prick's.

The ghost of their past love was still lingering in his mind. She was the only person he had loved. Truly loved. He remembered everything.

They started dating in their last year, keeping it secret at first. When they both decided to reveal it to the general public, the Black family soon put his two sents. They were young, but they knew it was love.

Alas, her family did not share their thoughts. Two weeks after the public declaration, she had been engaged to a respectable Malfoy.

"A shadow is cast on devotion," were her words when she announced Gilderoy her engagement to Lucius. Indeed.

But her first and unique reaction was to accept. She did not dare contradict her parents, she gave it up. She was a Slytherin, he was a Ravenclaw, not Gryffindors. Neither of them fight for it.

They continued meeting secretly for a while. He told her all the adoration he had for her, she replied that being a pureblood, she expected that unwanted engagement. Her destiny had been chosen for her a long time ago, and there was nothing he could do.

She left him, wishing it could had been different. But it never been.

She was happy with Lucius, Gilderoy could see that in her eyes. But she was not with him. She had moved on, when he didn't. He still cared about her, and for Gilderoy Lockhart, caring about someone was a rare fact.

He followed her and noticed she sat, alone, in a café near Flourish & Blotts. He took his chance.

"Hello," he politely greeted her. "It has been several years since the last time I saw you."

"Indeed," she simply replied.

He took a sit, without asking her. She seemed, for a micro second, annoyed.

"Listen Gilderoy, what happened between us is in the past. I'm happy now. Please leave," she whispered.

"I want you."

"I wanted you, I'm sorry."

"I love you." She left and didn't hear him.

But he understood. She loved him.

If it was bittersweet for her, it was definitely bitter for him.
