Rain splattered down onto the female figure lying prone on the side of the road. Bruises covered her face like some kind of gruesome decoration. She moved slightly, clenching her fist and then extending her fingers slowly. She opened her mouth slightly, feeling the dried blood from her nose and mouth. Unable to move her neck, she peered upwards into the star-filled sky. Waves of pain washed over her, but she was unable to make a noise as she tried to hold onto consciousness. Visions of plates smashing into walls and fists coming towards her flashed in her mind. She closed her eyes and a different kind of vision filled her mind.

A green yard... how many years ago was it? She saw a tiny girl who looked startlingly like her. The same curly black hair and dark eyes. She could hear the girl laughing and a small voice calling, "Come on Sophie! You're going to play ball with me, right? You promised, remember? Don't be such a fuddy-duddy! Come oooooon!"

A small, crooked smile crept across the injured girl's face. Headlights from a passing car illuminated her just a she slipped into darkness.
