ALL HE EVER NEEDED

Hikaru had to wonder what it was like.

He wondered what it was like to once be able to see everything in such bright colors. To see the texture of life all around him. What it must have been like to see the wind moving through the tops of the trees. To look up at the night sky, watching the stars twinkle brightly, as if just for him.

And he wondered, most importantly, what it was like to lose it all.

To lose his sight.

Living on memory of something he used to always be able to look at to his hearts content… It must have been hard.

It was with pitying eyes that Hikaru watched his brother-in-law search the table with only his hands, trying to find his glass of milk that had been given to him for breakfast just that day. The older redhead patted the table, carefully moving his hands across the table top, his head tilted to the side as if he was listening for that little 'clink' of when his hand hit glass. When it finally did, and he had successfully located his milk, a smile filled his face.

Gods, was it only just six months ago that Kyo had lost his sight?

…was it only just seven months ago that Kaoru had finally married the love of his life, and then had his heart nearly torn out when he thought his husband was to die?

Nearby, Kaoru Hitachiin-Sohma watched as his husband smiled in triumph, a soft look in his eyes. He watched as Kyo sipped his drink, a sigh escaping his lips when a milk mustache was revealed. Kaoru picked up a napkin, taking a hold of the older man's face and wiping above the other's upper lip. When a tanned hand moved up to hold his, a grateful squeeze the only thing said between them, he smiled

Though he didn't look directly at his younger husband, Kyo smiled just as well. When a lecherous look took over his face, a huff of laughter leaving the younger, he grinned, glad he could make the one he loved more then anything happy. …despite his handicap that had been forced upon him.

With white gauze still wrapped tightly around his sightless eyes, Kaoru smoothed his hand over Kyo's scarred cheek. The older redhead tilted his head into that hand, nuzzling the warm palm that had soothed him when he had his night terrors, revisited by the accident that had blinded him at nights. A purr left his lips, making Kaoru giggle at the antics of his love.

Hikaru watched his twin and brother-in-law in amazement from his place at the kitchen door.

The bonds of love were so obvious between the two.

Kaoru had always spoken of the red thread that connected him to Kyo since that day he had accepted that the Sohma was well and truly in love with him. He always spoke of how nothing, not even death would separate them. A blush always on his face, Kaoru would tell his twin of how he would never leave Kyo, no matter what.

The pitying look left his eyes, and Hikaru realized that Kyo would be alright despite being blind. He may never be able to see the bright colors all around him again. And he might not be able to watch the wind move through the trees or the stars twinkle at night. …he may never again grace his eyes upon his one and only love, see how Kaoru blushed or smiled at him again, but Kyo would be alright.

He had Kaoru.

And that was all he really needed, wasn't it?

"Hey, big bad martial artist! Can't you use the force or something to tell you where everything is? I thought they taught you that crap in the school for the Big and the Bad Martial Arts."

"Damn you, you reject from hell! That's Star Wars! Martial artists have chi!"

"Hikaru! Stopping teasing Kyo! And-! KYO! DON'T THROW THAT KNIFE!"

"HOLY SH-! I THOUGHT YOU SAID YOU DIDN'T HAVE THE FORCE?!"

"I DON'T! I COULD SMELL YOU FROM HERE INSTEAD!"

"K-kyo! Hikaru!"
