Dark clouds rolled their way over Washington, ready to throw a blanket of snow down, which Temperance Brennan was definitely not ready for. Snow. The symbol of Christmas. Which she was also not ready for. The anthropologist felt a soft sigh escape her lips as she glanced down at the angry pile of paperwork that still hadn't been started. Yet one more thing she was not ready for.
She leaned over and flipped the radio on, meandering through the stations until she found one that wasn't playing any Christmas music, the lights of the small Christmas tree in the corner that Angela had peer pressured her into putting up, along with mistletoe and various other Christmas decorations hanging around the room.
"Merry Christmas, Bones." Brennan jumped and looked over to spot Booth in her doorway, who was sporting a larger than necessary Santa hat.
"You know I don't celebrate it, Booth," she replied bluntly, unable to hold back a small smile of amusement at the ridiculous looking hat.
Booth didn't reply. He was too busy raising his eyebrows at her monstrous pile of work. "That doesn't look like much fun."
"It won't be." Brennan shrugged. It had to get done.
A huge grin swept across Booth's face as a song he apparently knew began to play on the radio. "Dance with me?"
"What? No!" The small smile that had appeared when Booth had showed up in the doorway turned into a childish grin.
"Come on, Bones." Booth grinned and grabbed her hands gently, pulling her to her feet.
There's a still in the street outside your window
You're keeping secrets on your pillow
Let me inside, no cause for alarm
I promise tonight not to do no harm
Yeah I promise you babe, I won't do no harm.
Brennan laughed softly as Booth pulled her closer and they both began to sway along with the music.
And we're caught up in the crossfire
Of heaven and hell
And we're searching for shelter
Lay your body down
Lay your body down
Lay your body down.
Brennan tightened her arms around his neck as he began to hum along with the music.
Watching you dress as you turn down the light
I forget all about the storm outside
Dark clouds roll their way over town
Heartache and pain came pouring down
Like hail, sleet, and rain, they're handing it out.
She rested her head on his shoulder and began to hum softly as well.
We're caught up in the crossfire
Of heaven and hell
And we're searching for shelter
Lay your body down
Lay your body down
Lay your body down.
Booth was singing softly now, and Brennan slowly lifted her head to see his face, illuminated by the white Christmas lights that looped around the room. Brennan made a note to thank Angela.
Tell the devil that he can go back from where he came
His fiery arrows drew their bead in vein
And when the hardest part is over we'll be here
And our dreams will break the boundaries of our fear
The boundaries of our fear.
Slowly, the gap between the two closed in a gentle kiss as the weather outside began to calm.
Lay your body down
Lay your body down
Lay your body down.
Lay your body down
Lay your body down
Lay your body down.
Next to mine.
