AN: This is Bulma before she met Vegeta. Pretty self-explanatory. I don't object to reviews :) Songfic, btw. Bulma and anything DBZ does not belong to me, and neither does Natalie Imbruglia's song "Left of the Middle"
Chapter 1
Bulma walked home slowly, trying not to let the tears stream down her cheeks. It was over with Yamcha, now and forever. They fought, and he had actually hit her, that bastard. It started to drizzle lightly, and the cold pinpoints of rain felt good on her face.
Why could'nt Yamcha be a real man? Why couldn't he protect her, and hold her when she needed it. He was always fighting, or hanging out with losers. She missed him already, bu8t there were no regrets. It only took a split second: his hand striking her, to realize she could never see him again.
"End of the third round
as I put the phone down
chasing the same lines
over the old ground."
Bulma straightened, realizing how stupid it all sounded. No one cared if she cried or not, except maybe Krillin. Too bad that would never work out. The stage was set, proverbially. Yamcha was gone, Krillin had never been. She was alone for the first time since her sixteenth year. All the poems about him would have to be burned, or at least thrown out. All the obsessive nights would be forgotten, or at least pushed back to the dark place. She needed someone to help her forget. It wasn't as if she was weak, just, suddenly alone.
"I'm pushing zero
where is my hero
he's out there somewhere
left of the middle."
Looking up suddenly, she saw a star light up the night. Holding her breath, she wished for the perfect man. Someone to love her, and heal the wounds, physical and emotional, that Yamcha had left. She didn't just want another empty boyfriend, but a soul mate. It sounded corny, but in truth, it was the exact sum of her needs.
"And your world falls down
and your there calling out
but it's something I can't say
though it seems the only way
but it's a game that I can't play
not today"
Maybe things would turn out alright. She still had Chi Chi and all of her friends to talk to. Bulma watched as the familiar building loomed up in front of her, with Capsule Corp emblazoned on the front. Fate, Kismet, whatever it was called. She would have to rely on that, until she came up somewhere, for air.
*********
Vegeta boarded his pod, and settled down for a long sleep, before they arrived on Earth. He was not aware of the future that awaited him, and all that occupied his mind was becoming stronger, faster, and acquiring power. He didn't want it to change, but then again, he didn't know what he wanted.
"I need to tell you
trying to get through
it's not always easy
Left of the middle."
