A/N: What is Disney canon? Oh yeah, dead to me. Seriously, TLJ was garbage and I don't know if I want to watch anymore Star Wars movies made by people that don't care about the series. Therefore, I will be making my own sequel trilogy.

It was as though her mind and body were attuned to the change of light, as the sky gradually lowered its dual moons and set about making the sun rise. Rey shifted out of a half-sleep with a silent yawn. She lay against the ground for a brief moment, eyes open to see the sky from between the gaps in the cave ceiling above her. The dark of night was lightning and the stars that hung around Jakku were fading as daybreak promised its return. Starlight began to disappear before her focusing eyes, leaving only pale rays behind to guide her vision through the nautical dawn.

The girl was in two worlds, but didn't let herself dwell on the contradictory thoughts inside for too long. She missed the stars already, but if Rey wanted to see the sun rise over the horizon, she'd need to move quickly and leave last night's dreams behind.

Rey soon rose from her cot and stretched, arms reaching for the roof over her head but never quite making it there. She pouted instinctively, feeling that old but silly disappointment over not being tall enough to touch the ceiling. Rey was grown by now, and perhaps as tall as she'd ever be.

She shoved her dissatisfaction back behind the reality of dawn approaching and set about pacing within the cavern to stretch her legs and wake up fully. Rey didn't have to travel far to approach a lump of robes and the ends of greying blonde hair in the opposite corner of her cot. Quietly, Rey retrieved her staff from near her Papa's sleeping form. She hesitated to turn away as something squeezed her heart inside and kept her steady, to look and make sure that he was really there and not a mirage. Thankfully, with a bit of patience, she saw his chest rise and fall gently and knew he was alright, only still sleeping.

Rey took a breath before leaving the safety of the cavern she called home. She shivered as, in all her wrappings, the cold of morning swept over her skin and twisted wily strands of hair across her face. Rey could see through the mess - a sliver of sunlight peaking over the far-reaching sands laid out before her home - and she grinned as she brushed her hair from her eyes. Her usual perch, a rock formation that had been cut in half to resemble a smooth seat, jutted from the sand beside the cave entrance as always. The girl hastened to get to it, jumping up to seat herself in the middle of its languorous inner patterns out of sheer superstition, another keepsake from her childhood self.

When she was ready, Rey faced the skyline with rapt attention, inhaling as Jakku's only sun rose higher and higher. She couldn't, in all sincerity, wait for the sun to menace over her before leaving for the day. But for the moment, Rey relaxed and gazed beyond her until she could no longer look at the biggest star in her world without needing to shy away from it.
