The Sparrow and the Swann

A/N: This is my first oneshot. I know the title has been used before, but it fits so well with the story. Lots of symbolism, hopefully not too complicated. A bit of fun-poking at one character. See if you can find the parallelism.

There once was a beautiful caged swann. Every day she dreamt of freedom, being able to fly high. One day, a grackle came to her side and he stole her heart from the moment she set eyes on him. Finally, he set her free. Elated, she flew off into the horizon, only to be captured again by poachers.

The defenseless grackle decided to pay the clever sparrow a visit. After negotiating, the sparrow agreed to help the grackle, for he too wanted to defeat the poachers. The grackle and the sparrow set off onto a wild adventure, landing in the poacher's territory.

After many hours of searching, the two stumbled upon the poachers. The sparrow fought a good fight, but the defenseless grackle was caught in one of the poacher's nets and could not escape. Finally, the sparrow came across the beautiful swann. Untying her from the strangling net, she finally laid eyes on him. She realized the grackle would never do, for he did not fly along with her after he set her free. The sparrow, though, she knew would follow her wherever she went, persuading her freedom every step of the way.

The grackle watched pitifully from the depths of the nets as the swann and the sparrow looked deep into each other's eyes. They both knew, in their hearts, where they belonged. Not in one place, alone, but everywhere, together. Helplessly, the grackle watched the lovebirds fly off to the horizon, letter their hearts lead the way.
