Chapter 1
'The world turned upside-down" I sang in my head as i walked home from school. Thus far, it was a day no different than any other. I woke up, walked to school, then walked home, and quite frankly I was so damn bored of it. As I listened to Lin Manuel Miranda tell me the story of Alexander Hamilton, I decided I would, well, turn the world upside down.
My name is Holly Parker and I am about as ordinary as they come, on the outside at least. I have mousy brown hair, boring brown eyes, and 96.6% of my waking hours are spent with my nose in a book. I have this problem, where once I start a book there is no force no matter how big that can make me put it down. This problem, has had a large negative effect on my social life, which I can safely say at this point is non-existent. My grandma has always called me her little book worm. See I live with my grandparents, and I have for as long as I can remember. When I was little my parents got busted for possession of cocaine. They went to prison, I went to my grandparents. I was born addicted to cocaine, and my BS parents were too lazy to wean me off it, so they gave it to me. I have no recollection of the first four years of life, I was high for most of them.
I'm completely clean now, i have been since I was seven, it took me three years to be completely weaned off. Those were the absolute worst years of my life, I had already lived through the worst pain a person can experience by the time I was eight. But i'm definitely not bitter or anything. As you can imagine that affected my brain, in largely negative ways. It also gave me the ability to listen to people's thoughts. It started happening when I was six. They thought I was disabled, I said people were talking to me who weren't actually talking to me. I guess that does make me disabled then. other having to be held back a year, It has not negatively affected me, they have no idea why. My grandma says that was her first clue that I would be, extraordinary.
