A young woman sat alone in a clearing, her legs pulled up to her chest.

This was the place of her childhood memories, both good and bad.

Her expression was nostalgic, yet sorrowful as she contemplated the memories of this place which held so much meaning to her.

"Monaco!"

"Monaco!"

The young girl turned around to see who called her out. A young boy ran towards her holding out a red ribbon in his hand. He stopped in front of her and panted, out of breath.

"I got something for you, so hold still!"

He clumsily tied the ribbon into her hair, making it into a bow. He stood back and admired his handiwork.

"You look really, really cute now!" He beamed at her.

"Really? Thank you, Roma." She smiled at him and pecked his cheek, giggling at his tomato red face.

Monaco sighed, her hand reaching up to the ribbon still placed in her hair even after so many centuries.

It was slightly frayed, but she took good care of it. It held all the emotions she lost since that moment in time when she left.

Friendship.

Caring.

Love.

"I have to leave now."

"But why? I don't want you to go! Don't leave me like Grandpa Rome did!" His eyes welled up with unshed tears.

She shook her head.

"No, Spain is kicking me out so I have to go live with France now."

"It's all that stupid tomato jerk's fault!"

"I guess... This is goodbye, Roma." She leaned in and kissed him chastely on the lips before leaving, tears trailing down her red cheeks.

"Monaco...!"

"Monaco!"

Monaco snapped out of the memories and looked up at the sound of her name called being out. She sniffed, her eyes bloodshot and swollen from crying.

"Roma...?"

"Why were you crying?"

He pulled her into a hug and her face buried in chest as she cried.

"Sorry..." Her voice was muffled. "I'm s-sorry!"

"What for?" His voice was calm as he rubbed her back gently and reassuringly.

"I... I left you alone, back then."

"The past is the past. Just put it behind you."

"I never got to tell you... that I loved you."

"I know."

With that said, Romano softly kissed her, his hands gently wiping her tears away. He pulled away and pecked her cheeks, smiling at the Monegasque.

"Don't cry anymore, I'm here for you."

Author's Note:

First time writing something full of feels. Well, it certainly gives me feels anyway.

I hope everyone sobbed like a baby, but I guess not everyone can get so much feels...

Reviews and constructive criticisms are welcome.
