A/N: Not really SasuNaru, I don't think. But if you want it to be, I suppose it could be taken like that. Review!!

This was it. They only had enough chakra for one jutsu each, so both of them picked something strong. Naruto created a few shadow clones and his powerful Rasenshuriken, while Sasuke went with one of his Chidori variants. They had been fighting for quite some time now, on a battlefield covered in corpses. Nobody was watching them.

There was a flash of bright light as they collided, their chakra sizzling furiously. Both wore grimaces, but neither would budge. Their arms were shaking from the sheer effort of holding each other back. It wasn't long before their bodies gave out, and they fell backwards onto the ground. They lay side by side, catching their breath, because neither of them was able to get up.

"Teme." Naruto forced the word, and Sasuke noticed the blood that spilled out with it.

"Hn." Sasuke wanted to save his strength, because he would stand back up and keep fighting in a few moments.

"I won." Naruto said it weakly, but Sasuke heard the triumphant note in his voice. It was so very Naruto.

"Hn." Sasuke grunted his usual reply, and it turned into an elongated cough.

Naruto patiently waited for Sasuke to stop and resumed the conversation.

"We'll call it a draw then?" The blonde was grinning widely, though it must have been painful.

"Hn."

"You're like a brother to me Sasuke. I just want you to know that." Naruto added the remark so softly that Sasuke could barely hear it, but it meant the world to him.

"We're not going to die, Dobe." Sasuke wasn't sure if he was saying that to reassure himself or Naruto.

Naruto laughed and ended up spraying out more blood.

"Teme."

"Dobe."

Sasuke reached out so that his fingertips were lightly resting on Naruto's. Naruto didn't acknowledge the gesture, but it comforted both of them, to know that they were together.

"I thought dying would be harder." Naruto shrugged, wincing in pain when he realized his shoulders were bleeding as well.

"Hopefully I won't be stuck with you in the afterlife." Sasuke's trademark smirk finally spread across his face.

"Sakura-chan will be sad."

"She'll be devastated."

"It's not really our fault." Naruto pointed this out with an anguished expression, thinking of Sakura's sobs.

"Well if someone had just won, then someone would have survived." Sasuke knew that never would have happened.

"Teme, I don't think I could have done that."

"Living would have been too peaceful without you, Dobe."

"Sayonara." Naruto said it with a ringing finality.

"Hn." Sasuke chose not to accept what was happening.

"That can't be your last word. Don't be an idiot." Naruto tried to crack a joke in their dire situation, but it didn't work too well.

"Sayonara, Dobe." Sasuke looked at Naruto as he said it, a genuine smile on his face.

"Sayonara, Teme." Naruto gave him a feeble smile in return.

Their heartbeats died out slowly and eventually, they slipped into darkness, a peaceful aura surrounding them.
