The sun had fallen asleep, and the moon rose. Its light lit the streets of the magnificent city of Paris. The moonlight shone through my window, and there I lied, in my rosy pink bed, with my eyes closed.
I brought my right hand towards my neck. The sensation of my cold hands touching my bare neck made me shiver, as I winced in pain. There I felt it, two small bite marks, punched into my lower neck. I could feel the cold tears starting to form and trickle down my cheek and onto my pillow. I fluttered my eyes open, trying to make the tears stop.
"Vampires," I muttered, under my breath.
That word had a vile taste when it came out of my mouth. Vampire are only supposed to be in fiction, horror stories. They shouldn't actually exist, not now, not ever. I was expecting for the wound to heal after I cleansed the akuma...
I saw a flash of pink through the corner of my eye, but I didn't move. I stood there, motionless, like a deer in headlights.
"Stay strong Marinette," Tikki said, in her usual cheery, positive voice. Except that this time, Tikki's tone felt forced, not wanting to show me another side of her. "I'm sure that the bite marks will heal soon."
Pain suddenly struck me when I least expected it. It was all the akuma's fault. What's his name again? That doesn't matter, what matters is that I'm on the verge of death. My mother, my father, they'll be heartbroken. What about Chat? I can't leave Chat behind. What about Adrien? His green eyes flashed before me and I closed my eyes once again.
I shake my head and scold myself for thinking that way. Tikki's voice echoes through my mind.
"Stay strong Marinette..."
I cry myself to sleep, like the weak girl I tell myself I am.
~Flashback to Batte~
"Chat Noir, look out!" I cried out to my partner as I saw a vampire approach him. I could feel my eyes widen in terror, as I realized what could happen if I didn't intervene. Nobody is getting hurt on my watch. This akuma fight, it didn't look like it would end well. Chat was hurt, his staff was thrown far from him. Still, he persisted on fighting, even when I told him that I could handle Hawkmoth's new super villain.
He had simply told me, "M'lady, I won't let those monsters hurt your pretty face." He winked, being as flirtatious as usual, despite of the current situation.
But now, I couldn't let him fight it the state he's in. I ran as fast I could towards him. A female vampire, with long pink- purple hair was also approaching Chat in full velocity, baring her fangs that were white as snow. Her crimson red eyes were fixed on my partner, who looked ready to fight back.
"Stupid cat, try to get away! " I yelled at him as I was just a couple of feet away from the cat themed hero. Just stumbling a bit, I reached him just in time to save him, but I couldn't save myself.
The pain was excruciating. Her fangs were now buried deep in me. With the little ounce of strength I had in me, I pushed the bloodsucker away, and fell back a bit, my right hand feeling the bite marks. Pale blue eyes met with hungry red eyes, and for a second I thought the world had ended.
~End of Flashback~
Everything around me was suddenly black. That's when it hit me, I was back in my room and it was all a nightmare. A horrible dream. My back felt sweaty, and my hand was still touching my bite wounds. They didn't hurt as much, now, which calmed me down a bit.
"It'll all be better by tomorrow..." I whisper, as I fall back asleep. The night was cold, Paris was safe, Chat was safe, but was I safe?
I peacefully slept through the night, trying to ignore the little bit of pain that I would sometimes feel. I slept so peacefully, that I didn't feel the extra pain that came within my dry mouth.
