Summary: Written for schmoop bingo's kid!fic - birthday prompt on livejournal. Thanks to Riker, Wesley doesn't have to spend his birthday alone.
Wesley sat in his quarters working on homework, annoyed by the fact that no one had remembered his birthday. His mother had made sure to make a call from where she was stationed, but other than her, no one else seemed to care.
He gave an angry sigh and threw down his work. He had no more interest in working. It was his birthday, he should be out having fun! Not stuck in his room doing homework. There was a beep from his door alerting him that someone was at the door. He told them to come in and was surprised to see commander Riker standing there. "Commander?"
"Wesley, we need you in Ten Forward," Riker stated.
"May I ask what for?"
"There is a malfunction, which we need your help to fix."
"A malfunction? Can't you get Lt. La Forge to to handle it?"
"Geordi is currently busy and suggested that you would be the most qualified to help."
"Umm..ok."
Wesley got up and followed Riker to Ten Forward, curious about the malfunction. He attempted to ask Riker about it, but the Commander stayed quiet. They were outside the doors when Riker stopped and stepped aside. "After you."
Wesley raised an eyebrow before walking through the doors and gasping in shock as the lights came on and all of the bridge officers and some kids from school were shouting 'surprise!' and 'happy birthday Wesley!' He smiled and looked all around the room to see it decorated and in the middle Guinin was standing near a huge birthday cake. He felt a hand on his shoulder and looked up to see Riker. "Surprised Wesley?"
"Very much so, Sir."
"Good. Now go enjoy yourself."
Wesley ran over to the cake. Guinin lit the candles and everyone sung him happy birthday before he blew out the candles. Guinin cut and handed out slices of cake as she began to talk to him. "what did you wish for Wes?"
"If I tell it won't come true."
She smiled and handed him a slice. "I hope that the rest of your day is wonderful."
"I will. I was sure that no one cared or remembered my birthday."
She sat down next to him. "I will tell you a little something. Your mother contacted Commander Riker about a weak ago and we've been planning a surprise party since."
"My mother made this happen then?"
Guinin shook her head. "It was all commander Riker's idea."
She got up to talk to the captain and Riker took her place. "Having fun?"
The teen nodded. "Very. Guinin said this was all your idea."
He nodded. "You've been feeling off since your mother left so I thought this would cheer you up."
"It has sir, thank you."
Riker reached over and put his arm on Wesley's shoulder, squeezing slightly and smiled making Wesley feel like he had butterflies in his stomach. "It's Will, when we are off duty."
Wesley smiled back. "Thank you, Will."
The party ended after the crew gave him some birthday gifts. Riker volunteered to help him carry them back to his room. They stepped in and Wesley set his pile of gifts on the table. "So I'm guessing that the surprise party was you're gift to me?"
Riker laughed and set down the gifts he was holding. "Actually," he said stepping closer and running his fingers through Wesley's hair before leaning in. "This is."
Riker closed the distance and kissed him lightly, making Wesley feel like complete jelly. He wrapped his arms around Riker's neck and kissed him back. 'hmm..I guess birthday wishes do come true,' he thought as their kiss deepened.
