What on Earth were you thinking?!

"Killian! What on Earth were you thinking?!"

Just when Emma thought the neverending ridiculous banter between her father and Killian might have come to an end, she was once again proved wrong.

He closed the front door behind them and heaved a deep sigh, scratching nervously that spot behind his ear. "I'm sorry, Swan, but you know I'm right."

She rolled her eyes so hard that for a second she was afraid they might never return to their original position.

"Killian."

"Emma." He retorted, pointedly mocking her exasperated way of saying his name when she was that annoyed at him.

"You know what, what the hell. You and David will just have to sort it out by yourselves this time. I'm not getting involved in another one of your stupid games."

As if on cue, little Hope Jones came bouncing from her room, all bright blue eyes and rosy cheeks, running to meet her dad with her little arms wide open.

"Aye, love. That we will, and you don't have to worry." He said before taking his four-year old daughter into his arms and blowing raspberries on her cheek and neck, making her squeal and giggle in pure excitement.

"Daddy, can I wear my princess dress to watch you and grandpa in battle?"

"Aye, little love, of course you can." He beamed at her with a mix of joy and pride in his eyes that threatened to break all of Emma's angry stance at once.

"Killian, I'm not 100% happy with the idea of you and my father sword fighting. Especially over such a silly reason!" She said, walking over to them and treading her fingers through Hope's long blonde locks.

"Mummy, it's not silly! Daddy's right." Hope said, with a serious frown and a pensive look as if she was analysing a serious diplomatic impasse. "If I'm really a princess-"

"You are, sweetie." Emma and Killian added in unison, making the former huff out a still slightly annoyed laugh and the former chuckle as he arranged a stray lock of his Swan's hair framing her face just like he always did when she was beautifully - helplessly - mad at him for some silly motive.

"I am a princess, and I need to have a first knight to protect me. I love daddy and I love grandpa, and so do you, mummy, so we can't really choose." She said nodding solemnly at Emma, who nodded back in reply, trying so hard not to laugh when her daughter was being her most serious self. "The only way to see who would be the best knight is a duel!" Hope finished with a triumphant smile.

Emma took her in her arms and bumped their noses affectionatelly together while Hope pressed both her little palms on her mother's cheeks.

"Alright, I can't win this argument so I might as well enjoy the show and leave it to fate." She finally conceded, chuckling when her daughter proceeded to pepper kisses all over her face in .

"Thank you, mummy!"

Killian pressed a soft kiss to Emma's forehead and high-fived his daughter on their victory before flashing his characteristic smug grin at her.

"Now all you and my little princess here have to do is sit back and watch as the pirate beats the headstrong prince in the grandest duel Storybrooke has ever witnessed." He added, with a flourish of his hands and curtseying like he was already presenting himself for battle - to which little Hope clapped animatedly and Emma shook her head in defeat.

She would never admit there was a little - alright, a huge part of her that was dying to see that.
