A/N: Welcome back guys! I'm sorry I deleted the previous fanfic, I was not happy how it came out and I felt as if I were giving my readers crappy quality work. Consider this a peace offering. The Time Warp Divide is still under works, please be patient with me.
Chapter 1: Jodie Visits Freddi
Jodie POV:
"This isn't like Freddi at all…" I muttered, navigating myself in the direction to her place.
Yesterday, Freddi, Samantha and I had a sleepover at Freddi's place. I had to leave for an appointment with the orthodontist early in the morning, but I over slept thanks to Samantha's cat constantly waking me up trying to find her bed or Samantha's ultra-loud snoring. While rushing to get ready, I accidentally left behind The Book. I sent Freddi a hologram message asking her to drop it off at my place after I get back from the orthodontist (AKA, house of pain). A few hours have past and no sign of The Book or Freddi in sight. Tired of waiting, I decided to go pick it up myself. Thank goodness Uncle Joe canceled our time magic lesson; otherwise I'd miss out for not having The Book with me!
Oh, I forgot to say! Uncle Joe wanted to give me lessons in time magic. Two months ago, he sent me a note via The Book telling me to meet him in a certain location so he could help me improve my Warp Level. I've attended a few practices, but last week he canceled our next lesson. He said he was busy catching up "with an old friend" and it will take him a while before he can leave. As soon as he got back, he'd reschedule our lesson. I turned a corner and found Freddi's place.
"Here it is…" I hopped off my hover disk and placed it in the back pocket of my skirt. Placing my hand on the scanner, I requested to transport myself to Freddi. In a flash, I transported outside the door. I heard someone giggling inside. It sounded almost like Freddi, actually…
I put my ear to the door; just to be sure it was Freddi and not some stranger impersonating her…
"Jodie?"
I jumped back and saw Samantha starting at me with a confused look. Sheepishly, I backed away from the door.
"Samantha, what are you doing here? I thought you left a little after I did…" I tried my best to play it cool.
"I'm asking the same question. What are you doing?"
"I forgot The Book because I was in such a rush to make it to the orthodontist in time." I said. "When Freddi didn't drop off The Book I decided to go get it myself. Now it's your turn…"
"Fine. I asked Freddi to cat-sit for a bit while I went back home to get this." She pulled out a blueprint from her bag. "It's the blueprints for my project."
"What's it on?" I eyed the drawing. It resembled a huge tree.
"Duh, it's on family trees… well," Samantha rolled it back up. "It's more on technological differences and attitudes inside each generation our family has. But my partner had the idea to do it as an interactive family tree."
"Nice, nice…" My mind wandered off. I didn't find inventions very interesting anyway. "Um, are you going to knock?"
Samantha pressed a button on the side of the wall and we transported. We found Freddi sitting across from someone. The guy's back was facing Samantha and me and Freddi seemed to enjoy his company. She was smiling and giggling with him. I cleared my throat. Freddi's face turned bright red with embarrassment when she saw us.
"Samantha, Jodie!" She squeaked, her eyes darted from us to him.
"I came to pick my book up," I said, my voice a little tight. So Freddi didn't drop off The Book because she was busy flirting with some guy? Tsk, tsk. "Is this conversation you're having so important that you couldn't give me The Book?"
Okay, maybe that sounded a bit harsher than I expected.
"I'm afraid the fault is mine…" The guy got up from his seat and turned around. "You see…"
My jaw literally dropped; the guy Freddi was busy talking with had to be the hottest guy I've ever seen! His sleek, black hair was styled in a 1950's duck-tail and I could tell he worked out; this guy could pull off a tight shirt!
"I went to see if Samantha was at Freddi's." His dreamy red-brown eyes were fringed with thick black eyelashes. "I guess we lost track of time talking to each other…"
I tried to say something, but no words came out of my mouth. Samantha noticed my loss-of-words and nudged me. I snapped out of my star-struck daze and found myself looking back into his handsome face.
"We haven't introduced ourselves," I extended my hand. "I'm Jodie, Samantha's and Freddi's cute, fashionable friend."
"The name is Rosario Rios," He said in a lilting accent.
"I like your accent," I accidentally blurted out: "where are you from?"
"Jodie!" Samantha hissed. "That's rude to ask!"
"No, no! I don't think Jodie meant to be rude. She's simply curious." Rosario said sympathetically. "I'm from Brazil, Rio de Janeiro is where I was born and raised."
"How did you come to Brooklyn?" I asked. Samantha threw me another look.
"My grandfather lives in Brooklyn, and they always wanted me to go to high school in the United States." He took the blueprints from Samantha's hands. "I always wanted to study inventing, and what better place to study than here?"
"Speaking of inventing…" Samantha butted in my conversation. "What do you think about the blueprints I drew?"
"They look good…" Rosario's attention turned to the blue piece of paper instead of me. "But there's something off with this thing…"
"What thing?" Samantha got out a pencil and eraser.
"This one…"
Then I had to sit there for fifteen minutes listening to Rosario and Samantha talk about a whole bunch about inventing and trees and families and blah, blah, blah. I was a little mad that Samantha butted into my conversation like that. Rude. While I sat there obviously pouting, Freddi kept on looking at Rosario with a slight blush on her face. Every now and then Rosario would look up from his blueprints, catch Freddi starting at him and give her a slight smile. He'd go back to being a huge nerd, a really hot one.
"…and there we go! We've figured it out!" Rosario cheered and high-fived Samantha. He lay back onto the sofa and placed his arms behind his head, smiling contently. The white shirt pulled on his taut muscles and contrasted with his smooth russet skin tone.
"We've got a lot done these past fifteen minutes. Sad we couldn't do it yesterday…" Samantha put the pencil and eraser away.
"I had to talk with my mom; she's still upset about what happened." Rosario gave her this look of disapproval and I knew this meant that Samantha was closer to him than I was. "I'm still trying to tell her that being a dancer is just a hobby, I'm not that passionate about like photography or inventing."
"Wow, you're an inventor and a dancer?" I said in amazement.
Rosario leaned forward. "Yes. I usually help out with the choreography for theater productions and musicals. It's a demanding work, but a hobby I love."
"That's so cool!"
"Thank you for the complement, Jodie." Rosario looked down and smiled modestly at me. I turned to jelly right on the spot.
"Now, the most important question…" Samantha turned her attention to Rosario. "What materials should we use?"
"I think a…" An alarm sounded off. Rosario grabbed it and sighed. "Oh no, I'm out of time!"
He jumped up from his seat and zipped up the leather jack he left next to him. "Sorry, I can't be late. Coach gets really pissy if people arrive late."
"Tomorrow's Saturday," Samantha picked up her robot cat. "We can meet up around 12 if you'd like."
"Thank goodness! You name the place and I'll be there!" He picked up his bag. "What should I bring?"
"Your family photo album; we'll need to scan the pictures if we want to use them as holograms."
"How far back do we have to go?"
"He said the minimum is 100 years. Fine enough for you?" Samantha asked.
Rosario's face fell a little and quickly disappeared. "I'll see what I can do."
He pet Samantha's cat one last time. "I'll be off, goodbye everyone, goodbye Jodie!" He transported away.
After he left, I squealed loudly. "Oh my god, Samantha, where did you meet him?"
"He's an inventor I competed against in a competition. We were both finalists and guess who won first place?" Samantha did not look impressed. "I didn't think I'd see him again afterwards, but big surprise! He transferred to our school a week later and since I was the only person he knew, we started to 'hang out' together."
"Why didn't you introduce him to me earlier? He's a total dreamboat!" I sighed.
Samantha burst out laughing. "Wow Jodie, you sure crack me up sometimes!"
When she stopped laughing and snorting at the same time, I was still thinking about Rosario. She frowned. "No way Jodie! You seriously have a crush on him?"
"Mm-hmm…" I nodded.
Samantha groaned. "Jodie! Look, normally I don't judge the guys you like but you should forget about Rosario. If I were you, the thought of looking at him a second time would never exist!"
"What's wrong with Rosario?" I asked her, putting one hand on my hip. "I think he's an attractive and intelligent gentleman. What's not there to like?"
Freddi looked at Samantha with a sad look on her face. Samantha's shoulder's drooped. She raised her hands up in defeat.
"Forget about what I said, Jodie." She said and went after her cat.
"Jodie, here you go…" Freddi handed me The Book. "Sorry for not dropping it off."
"You don't have to apologize. I was being a little rude for no reason." I said happily. "So what do you think about Rosario Rios?"
"Well… I, uh…" Freddi looked at her feet and blushed bright red. "He's really funny and cute, I guess."
"Well, I gotta run too." I said, making my way to the door. "I have some homework to catch up on. See ya!"
What homework? How can one possibly do homework with Rosario Rios on the brain?
I sure couldn't!
A/N: Some of the older TWT fans on may remember who Rosario Rios is. Give him a warm welcome guys, he's back and more of a babe than ever! (just ask Jodie) ;)
I made this chapter with notebook paper and editing before typing it out. I say, this method gives me better quality in my chapters. The con is that it'll take a few days to make one chapter at a time, but I know you guys are patent enough! 8D
