On Call

Dashing everywhere in a blurry blaze
Each house a different and challenging phase
Screeches for help, deafening screams demand
That we lend an adequate helping hand

It's alarming that anyone can be in danger
From friend, to family, to a complete stranger
The flashing siren wails through the night
Another emergency, another fright

Reassuring the victims they won't die
Sometimes not knowing if they'll survive
It's hard to look at a person suffering right in the face
And lose them after a fast-paced, exhausting race

Yet coming through the hospital doors in despair
Many do make it with the right medicine and care
What were once cold frowns, anxious and hostile
Can readily change into grateful smiles

Who says teenagers can't save lives?
