Sleeping Beauty had been the second video cassette on the pile that Julie Rafter brought home for her little girl. With Jake right beside her on the lounge, Rachel glued her bright blue orbs to the screen, as the opening credits of Sleeping Beauty started.
Together, they watched as Aurora grew from a little girl, singing to her prince charming, eventually drifting into a deep slumber. With a kiss from Prince Philip, the prince and the princess were able to live happily ever after.
"I wonder if my prince charming will wake me up with a kiss", Rachel wondered, sitting up straighter against her blankets.
Jake shrugged. "I don't know... do we have to watch all the movies?"
He loved his best friend dearly, but it wasn't his plan to sit through the Disney princess movies with her. That was taking it a little too far, in his eyes.
"Yes", Rachel growled, smacking him with a cushion.
He giggled.
It was merely weeks later, when Rachel had recovered from her stomach bug and the two six year olds were loving their school holidays, where he arrived to find the little girl still in bed.
"Jake, if you can get her out of bed, I'll take you to the park", Julie volunteered.
He padded into her purple bedroom- her eyes were squeezed shut, but Rachel Rafter was definitely awake. "Rachel! I'll kiss you if you don't get out of bed!"
"Argh!" Rachel leapt out from under the blankets, squealing.
Rachel didn't let a lifetime pass. By the time she was in her twenties, she had realised who her Prince Philip was, awakening her from her sleep with a gentle kiss.
