(A/N- Happy New Year!
Disclaimer: I don't own the new year, or Harry Potter)
In Here
Love Lasts Forever.
Their's Isn't Gone.
Life Keeps Moving,
But Their Legacy Lives On.
We kneeled by his parent's grave in silence for a few moments more.
"So this is really it," Harry said. I nodded, noting a hint of anger in his voice. "They sacrificed everything for me, for everyone. They died, and this is all they get?"
"Harry, a lot of people have died in this war," I tried to comfort him.
"But they were my parents, Hermione, they were my family," his voice cracked, "And now there's no one left." He laughed a bitter laugh. "Besides my charming Aunt Petunia and her lovely family, of course, but they don't even want anything to do with me."
"It's not your-"
"I'm alone, Hermione! I've got nobody else! You don't under-"
"Harry! Stop that right now! Sure, you don't have any family, other than your nasty aunt, but that doesn't matter! And you know why, Harry?"
"No, but I suspect you're going to tell me." I had to suppress the urge to roll my eyes at that.
"Because you have us."
His eyes widened in surprise and confusion. "What do you mean?"
"You have us," I repeated. "Me, Ron, Ginny-all the Weasleys- we're your family, Harry." I had tears in my eyes. "We'll go to the end of the world and back for you."
"Thanks, Hermione, really-"
"And Merlin knows we'd die for you!"
"But I'm not asking you to!"
"Whether you asked us to or not, we'd do it anyways! Every one of us would take a curse for you without hesitation, Harry."
"Well, maybe you ought to hesitate and just let me die."
"What are you on about?"
"Look, Hermione, I appreciate that all of you care enough about me to die in my stead, but no one ever looks at it from my side of fence! No one thinks about how their actions will affect me, how I feel."
I was shocked. Harry wasn't the one who liked to talk about feelings. "Then how do you feel, Harry?"
"I-I don't want any of you to die, much less for me-"
"Harry-"
"Hermione! Could you just stop thinking and listen to me?" I was a little hurt, but I shut up.
"I don't want anyone to die for me because," he paused, and when he started to speak again, his voice had dropped to an almost inaudible volume, "Because I don't think I could live anymore if I lost another person that I loved."
"Oh, Harry." He was in tears now, hands on either side of his face. "You haven't lost any of them, not really. Do you remember? So many years ago, when we saved Sirius from the dementors?" I knew Sirius was still a sore subject for him, but I plowed through it. "Remember what he said, Harry?" I continued, not waiting for his response. "The ones that love us never really leave us. You can always find them in here." I pulled one hand into mine and touched the other to his heart. "They're all in here." He looked at me with such surprise and relief that I felt my heart swell. There's no better feeling in the world than knowing someone you love is happy. Really.
(A/N- This is the shortest one-shot I've written so far. Oh, and the poem belongs to me. There were a whole bunch of versions I came up with, but thanks to my trusty steed, Gillian, I used this one. Just kidding, Gillian isn't really a horse. And, of course, the original version of the poem is dedicated the most amazing couple ever- BREVIN! Love Conquers All. It's on my profile, if anyone wants to check it out. Thanks, guys. Hope you liked it!)
