Pet Peeves
"So, Junior, I took the kids and Joanne to the Humane Society to adopt a dog to replace Killer." Roy Desoto informed his partner while they were getting dressed for their shift at Station 51.
The dog Roy was referring to was their German Shepherd Killer, who had several months before passed over the rainbow bridge. Killer had been a very inappropriate name for that dog. Even with the name Killer and the fact that he was a German Shepherd, Killer had been a big wussie of a dog. Getting frightened by a little Chihuahua at the off leash dog park. Afraid of thunder. Scared off by just about any little noise. Roy had often joked that Killer was a big fraidy dog.
"So, what kind did you get?" John Gage asked Roy, his partner on Paramedic Squad 51.
"We adopted a Golden Retriever."
"And did your new dog have a name already, or did you give him or her a name?"
"Well, he had a name, but the kids didn't like it."
"What was the name?"
"Sir Barks a Lot."
John roared with laughter. "Oh, Roy. The poor dog. No wonder Jen and Chris wanted to rename him."
"Yes, but when I asked him what they wanted to name him, they said 'Peeve'."
"Peeve?" John repeated.
"Yes, Johnny, Peeve."
"Why did they want to name him Peeve?"
John was tucking in his shirt so he didn't see Roy's huge grin.
"Because they wanted to have their own pet Peeve!" Roy announced.
John was now rolling on the floor laughing. "You've been around Chet too long, Pally!"
