A/N: I wrote a Sherlolly fic recently based on a Michael/Jackie scene at the end of 'Dead Reckoning' and beautywithin22 challenged me to write a M/J scene based on a Sherlolly scene. This is the result, it's from a scene in 'A Scandal In Belgravia' and is set in the early days when it's just Taggart, Michael and Jackie. Hope you enjoy :)
Disclaimer: I own nothing.
Dedication: for beautywithin22 who gave me the idea, hope I did it justice!
Locked
"New girlfriend?" Jackie teased as she watched Michael unsuccessfully attempt to hack into someone's phone.
Michael looked up at her with a bemused expression, "I'm trying to hack into someone's phone and you think it's my girlfriend's?"
Jackie shrugged a shoulder, "We all do silly things," she said with a grin as she took a sip of her coffee.
Michael gave a noncommittal grunt as he turned back to the phone before looking up at Jackie in a flash of inspiration. "Yes, they do don't they?" he commented, turning back to the phone in excitement and punching in some numbers.
His shoulders slumped in defeat as the phone failed to unlock.
"What is so important about the phone anyway?" she asked, putting down her drink and coming over to join him at his desk.
"It belonged to the victim, if we can break the code than we can see her call history before the phone company gets back to us," he explained, examining the phone critically.
"And it won't hurt to impress Taggart either," she teased.
Michael shot her a roguish grin, "It can't hurt."
Jackie shook her head with a smile and returned to her desk to finish up some paperwork, leaving him to his misery.
An hour later Michael slammed his fist on his desk in frustration, startling Jackie, "At this rate we might as well wait for the phone company," he grumbled.
Jackie grinned, "No luck?"
"No."
"Mind if I have a go?" she asked.
"Be my guest," Michael replied, tossing the phone to her.
She caught it easily and regarded it for a few moments, chewing her lip thoughtfully before typing in a short sequence of numbers.
The phone unlocked with an audible beep.
Michael and Jackie looked at each other, "You realise that now I have to kill you," Michael said after a long moment.
Jackie laughed as she scrolled through the call history, she stopped and looked up at him, "She got a call from the suspect."
Michael came over to join her, "You're sure?" he asked, leaning over her shoulder for a closer look.
"See for yourself," she countered, passing him the phone.
"We should tell Taggart," he said as he straightened, "are you coming?" he asked, glancing down at her as she made no move to follow him.
She shook her head, "Go get your glory," she ordered with a smile.
Michael hesitated, "You cracked the code."
"You were the one who was convinced it would lead somewhere," she countered, Michael prevaricated and she laughed. "You can buy me a drink later," she added.
Michael grinned, "It's a date," he told her as he strode off.
Jackie blinked in surprise as she watched him go, he paused just outside Taggart's door, "I promise I won't attempt to hack into your phone," he added with a wink as he disappeared into the office.
Jackie shook her head as she turned back to her paperwork, suddenly very eager for her shift to end.
