She was the real Cinderella story.

The girl who had nothing and who gained everything. She had went from rags to riches. She wasn't an overnight success. It had taken her years to reach where she is now. On top of the world, possibly the galaxy.

She used to be the dirty orphan that no one paid mind to or cared about. She had to scrounge around for food or beg for handouts. More often than not, she was ignored or pushed aside. Sometimes, there was someone kind who'd hand her a couple of credits, enough to buy a sandwich or bought her food.

She had lived that tale. She knew what it was like to be hungry, cold and alone. She knew and understood.

It had been luck that Grace found her and took her in. She was fed three times a day, bathed and clothed. She had a warm bed to sleep in, clothes that weren't in tatters and more shoes that she could count. She was tutored by a prestigious governess who'd taught her to read and write, taught her maths, languages, politics, history, music. She learned, soaking up everything like a sponge.

Music was her favorite lesson of all. She wrote lyrics, made up melodies and sang. She sang whenever she felt like it. In the bathroom, in her bedroom, in the kitchen, at the balcony of the apartment. She sang at the park. She realized that when she sang, she could forget everything and put all her heart and soul into the words and music. She could lift people's spirits up, give them hope, joy and inspiration.

She decided to be a singer. A pop idol like Lin Minmei, Sharon Apple, Mylene Junius and all those others who were famous. She would be as big as them, maybe even bigger. She confided this with Grace one night after dinner.

And Grace had given her this knowing smile, telling her maybe.

At first, no one cared much about this young, up and coming singer but she persisted. She got herself slots on TV shows and radio, she promoted her first single and had mini shows at shopping malls. She kept at it, ignoring the uncertainty that came with and the days when her confidence was at its lowest.

Success was not without much hard work and dedication. Grace helped, of course. It was thanks to Grace's tireless efforts that media began to pick up on her. She soon became well known, her name on everyone's lips and plastered on nearly every newsprint. Her songs were played on every station and on TV. She was invited to be part of every talk show and a concert was suggested.

People turned up by the hundreds and the numbers grew with each successful show. Everywhere she went, she was mobbed by fans and press. Her name and fame grew. Every single she released was an instant hit, reaching number one and staying there for weeks and months.

As Grace had smiled and said, she knew that she was a lot more famous than Lin Minmei.

She was the real Cinderella story.

She worked her way up, reaching to the top, to be where she is now.

She was Sheryl Nome.

End.
