'No way.'

'The morning run-down was meant to start twenty minutes ago!'

'You ring them then!'

'You know them better!'

'I know Mac better. Not Will.'

'So? Ring Mac!'

'Not. A. Chance,' he said slowly.

Maggie frowned.

'What do we do if Skinner comes down here?' Jim shrugged.

'Tell him the truth.'

'Well, you can do that. I'm not.'

'No one asked you to.'

'No, but I can see the scene now in my head. He'll walk down here and look around and then he'll see me and then he'll ask me if I've seen Will and I'll have to say no, and then he'll ask if I've seen Mac and I'll have to say no again, and then he'll tell me to ring them and I am not ringing them.'

'Ringing who?' Don asked as he dropped a folder on Jim's desk.

'Will and Mac. They haven't shown up for work yet,' Maggie whispered.

'Of course they haven't. They're engaged,' he replied simply.

'But the morning run-down was meant to start twenty-two minutes ago!' Maggie whispered, ignoring Don's obvious choice of normal room-level voice.

'Do you need me to explain why they're late?' Don asked slowly.

Maggie glared.

'It's fine. They'll be here when they're here. They are professionals,' Jim added, sounding more like he was convincing himself than anyone else.

Maggie sighed, frustrated, and went back to her desk.

'What's wrong?' Sloan asked as she walked past.

'Will and Mac aren't in yet,' Maggie replied.

'Of course not. They got engaged last night. They're probably-'

'Yeah, I know – I know what they're probably doing. Thanks for that,' Maggie asked, and Sloan frowned.

'So what's actually wrong?'

'The morning run down was meant to start twenty-three minutes ago.' Sloan shrugged.

'They're the bosses. Not your problem. They'll be in sometime,' she said, waving her hand.

'But what if Mr Skinner comes down looking for them?'

'Maggie…'

'He will want someone to ring them and find out where they are!'

'Really?' Sloan looked sceptical.

'Yes!'

'And you're assuming that person will be you?'

'Yes!' Maggie practically cried. Sloan looked up and across the bullpen.

'Well, you're about to find out,' she muttered.

'Have either of you seen Will or Mac yet?' a voice asked from behind. Maggie set her jaw in place, glaring at Sloan.

'No, they're not in yet, sir,' she replied, ignoring Jim's muffled laughter.

'Call Will for me? They're late.'

She ignored the loud sound of head hitting a desk.

'Sir, they did get engaged last night,' Sloan added, narrowing her eyes a little.

'No kidding,' he replied. 'And as much as it's a truly momentous occasion, and I may have checked that it wasn't April first last night, and as much as I'd like to let them spend the next few days-' Maggie grimaced, and Charlie quickly changed tack – '…getting reacquainted, I think allowing them three hours grace is good enough, don't you?' Sloan frowned slightly and nodded.

'Probably.'

'Ring?'

Maggie stared at him for a long moment before turning and picking up the phone. It rang several times, and she dared to hope that he wouldn't answer.

'You're fired,' a gravelly voice said down the phone.

'I'm so sorry, but Mr Skinner asked me to ring,' Maggie said quickly. 'He's right here and would like to know your estimated time of arrival.'

'Put him on.'

Maggie gladly pointed the receiver in Charlie's direction. 'He would like to talk to you.'

Charlie took the phone. 'Will!...Yes, I know, I was here…' There was a long pause. 'Ok. See you soon.'

He handed the phone back to Maggie. 'They're on their way,' he said, looking a little disconcerted, and Maggie nodded.

'Slept in.'

A muffled snort could be heard from the direction of Jim's desk. Maggie thrust her tongue into her cheek, unwilling to admit to herself just how funny the whole situation actually was. She turned to see Sloan walking quickly away from her desk, doubling over as she walked into her office. Maggie regained her composure and looked up at Charlie.

'Of course, sir.'
