The Last Enemy Defeated
It was a cold night, something that Harry was expecting. He had known that he would die eventually, and now he was ready for it. He looked back at his wife, who was curled up on the bed beside him, and gently kissed her cheek, before fading away.
It was heartbreaking to watch from above as his lifeless body was discovered, but he was in the company of his mother, father, and godfather, as well as his old school professor.
"Was it the same way for you?" he asked, watching the events down below.
Sirius shook his head. "I wasn't expecting death to come for me as quickly as it did," he said and shrugged. "But it turned out for the best in the end, I suppose."
Lily shook her head in exasperation at Sirius, and ran her fingers through Harry's hair, which was back to the dark untidy hair which had inherited from James instead of the gray hair he had claimed was his children's fault.
"James and I didn't stick around too long after we died. We figured it would make things easier on us, since we had known that death would claim us eventually." Lily looked over at James, who stood proudly behind his son.
"And I'm glad we did," he said, placing a hand on Harry's shoulder. "You turned out alright, despite your aunt and uncle's treatment."
He and Lily turned away, leaving Harry behind with his thoughts. Sirius and Remus left too, knowing that Harry was going to be awhile.
Harry sighed. He continued to watch the events below, but he knew that sticking around was going to hurt him more in the long run. He would wait for Ginny, no matter how long it took, because wasn't love patient?
Death had been defeated.
