Heartless

Kelly Kelly walked down the hallway of the arena, her high heels clicking softly on the hard floor. Folding her slender arms across her chest, she looked back warily, making sure no one was following her. She knew what she was about to do was risky because he, the Big Red Machine, was waiting to pounce on her secret lover. But she had to see him. She wanted—needed an explanation. She saw him standing against the doorway of the men's locker room. She quickened her steps in case he got away and grabbed his wrist.

He turned to look at her, but the caring eyes that she expected were replaced with stern, cold ones. She released her hold on his wrist and stepped back an inch. "Randy, please. Can we talk?" she asked in a small voice, her courage and determination of earlier were completely erased in the presence of the Legend Killer.

He glared at her with his steely blue eyes, the iciness of his orbs sent chills up her spine. "I'm busy," he declared in a cool voice, turning his head away to the direction of the door.

Her heart clenched painfully at the thought that he could dismiss her so easily after what they had shared. Their intimacy still resonated in her mind like a recurring dream. Gathering all the courage that she could muster, she lifted her eyes to him. "Please," she pleaded, "I don't know why you're avoiding me. I tried to protect you from Kane and you can't return a single call? You told me you liked me and I really liked you, too. I thought that night we had was special." She had practice her speech in front of the mirror several times, preparing herself for any reaction that came her way. What came next though, she did not expect.

He laughed coldly and she felt as if she was splashed with a bucket of ice water. "Are you kidding me?" His tone held a touch of disbelief and amusement. "That was one night, Kelly, and frankly it wasn't all that memorable. I used you. You are pathetic," he growled, his tall stature made it more humiliating. "And the last thing I need with a World Heavyweight Championship on the line is a distraction…like you," he finished, giving her one last glare before stalking off.

She lowered her eyes to the ground, willing herself not to shed any tears for a man who had used her. She bit down on her bottom lip and took a deep breath. Finally, she looked up, making out the outline of his back in the distance. He was speaking to Maria, who was too gullible to know what the Legend Killer was trying to pull. Only when she loses her heart and body to the blue-eyed predator and receives nothing but a damaged soul in return would she find out that he was truly heartless.
