Hogwarts' Twin Weekend: Lorcan and Lysander Scamander

Are You Crazy Enough to Do It Challenge: 185. (drink) Rum

Word Count: 475

Lorcan moodily stirs his rum, his mind locked on the image that greeted him as he entered his flat. Lucy Weasley, his shy, sweet, beautiful girlfriend, wound around his twin brother. Lysander was pressing a kiss against Lucy's freckled, bare neck and the sheets were tangled around them. And they were naked.

Lorcan grits his teeth and clenches his fist as he recalls Lucy's soft face turning a rosy red and his brother's a deep ruby. The rest is a blur; Lorcan vaguely remembers throwing a punch at his brother and hearing a sickening crack as his fist connected with Lysander's nose. He can still hear Lucy's ensuing screams, echoing hauntingly in his mind.

Lorcan drains his glass of rum and asks for another. His theory is to drink as much as alcohol as his body can handle and then exceed that limit, so he won't have any recollection of this horrible night.

Lysander is mortified as his brother stands gobsmacked in the doorway, his eyes swimming with shock and rage. He is in the middle of a passionate embrace with his brother's girlfriend and she too is embarrassed, her cheeks painted red.

Now Lysander stands in Diagon Alley. It is close to midnight and it is raining, but Lysander is determined. He wants to make amends with his brother.

He spots a pub and walks in without hesitation. It is a small, dingy pub with low lights, but Lysander sees his brother immediately—there is no mistaking the blond hair they both possess—and makes a beeline towards him.

Lorcan looks up as he approaches and he can see his eyes are glazed over with alcohol. He's cautious, not knowing how violent his brother is when under the influence of alcohol.

"Oh lookie, it's my twinie," Lorcan slurs. Lysander makes no effort to correct him, instead sitting across from him.

Lysander looks at him flatly and says, "I know you won't remember any of this tomorrow, but I wanted to do this for my conscience. Lorcan, I'm sorry for having an affair with your girlfriend, but I love her and I'm not just messing around with her. I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me and support me."

Lorcan stares at Lysander, his right eye twitching slightly in bewilderment. He doesn't comprehend a single word that comes out of his mouth, but somehow, deep inside of him, he feels a spark of forgiveness within. Maybe someday, he will be able to accept his brother's love for his ex-girlfriend. Maybe he would walk down the aisle as his brother's best man at his wedding. Maybe he would become the godfather of a baby boy whose eyes would shine like the stars.

He would have to learn to forgive his twin brother first, but he was already halfway there. They were siblings, after all.
