"Link!"
The princess's voice echoed throughout the battlefield, man and creature alike scattered across the bloody soil.
"Link!" She called again, albeit louder this time.
Her only response was the howling of the wind.
Blinking back tears, she cast her baby blue eyes to the sky, seeing nothing but dark clouds hanging over her head.
"...Zelda..."
The soft whisper was barely loud enough to reach the young woman's ears. "Link?!" Zelda cried, whipping her body around to face her love.
Sitting up against a large oak tree was her knight in shinning armor.
Link.
"Oh, thank Farore!" Zelda gasped as she began to run to him, not even bothering to lift up her torn skirt.
"Zelda," Link reached for her when she sat beside him. "It's okay..."
"N-No," Zelda choked, tears rushing down her face. "No it's not! Ganondorf may be dead, but so is everyone else! Everyone!"
"Shh, calm down. Everything will be fine."
"Oh my..." Zelda covered her mouth in horror. "Y-You're wounded."
He followed her gaze to his chest where blood had soaked through his green tunic, turning it into a sickish brown. "Heh. That explains why I feel like crap."
"Link, please!" Zelda ripped a piece off the hem of her dress and pressed it into his wound. "Please do not joke at a time like this! This is a serious wound and it needs treatment."
"Zelda," Link sighed, trying to pull her hands away from his body.
"Please let me do this, Link!"
"Zelda..."
"I can do this! I am not going to sit here and-"
"Zelda!"
At his harsh tone of voice, the princess looked up at his dirty face.
"Y-You don't understand," Link smiled sadly. "You can't possibly heal this."
Zelda wiped her tear streaked face with the back oh her hand, smearing dirt and blood onto her cheek. "Why not?!"
"His sword... went through my chest and broke some of my ribs."
Choking back a sob, Zelda raised a shaky hand to caress his face. "I... I refuse... t-to just give up on you!"
"I'm not asking you to give up on me, love," Link smiled. "... I'm simply asking you to stay with me."
"Oh Nayru, don't talk like that!" Zelda cried, burying her head into the crook of his neck. "People talk like that when they're... they're..."
"Zelda."
"Y-Yes?"
"Could you sing a song for me?"
"... Sing?"
"Yes. I've always liked your singing."
Link felt the woman stiffly nod her head against him. "Hey, we could sing together. I know I don't have the best voice, but if it'll make you feel better...?"
Zelda nodded once more before she began to sing. "You are my sunshine."
Link closed his eyes and smiled at her choice of song as he sang with her.
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you
"Don't take my... my..." Zelda froze, her eyes wide with terror. "Link?"
The princess took in a sharp breath and felt her eyes burn with tears. She pulled the body beneath her's into a tight embrace.
"D-don't... t-take... my s-sunshine... away..."
