Bad Dreams

Anders almost always woke up before Marian. Maybe it was a Gray Warden thing, or maybe it was his fear of the coming templars. Whatever the reason, the apostate woke up before Marian most days, but not today. As Marian looks at him, eyes fluttering, she wonders what he is dreaming about. Whatever the dream is, she thinks, she hopes it is a happy one.

Anders looks around and sees the black city in the distance. Where ever a mage is in the fade, you can see that in the distance. He feels different. He wonders why Justice hasn't taken over yet, because that is what he usually does in fade. He sees his Marian fighting templars and demons in the distance and then he sees a woman that he doesn't even know about ready to get the brand of tranquility. He tries to rush to Marian's side to do battle with the templars and demons when Justice takes control of his psyche.

Anders tries to move towards his Love's side, but Justice won't let him. We have to help the mage before it is too late, but he sees Marian fall. Justice forces him forward towards to mage and kills all the Templars' around in a fiery blaze, but he is too late. She is already tranquil. He rushes over to Marian, but she is dead, she is gone. He tries to heal her, to mend her broken body back together again, but, as witnesses will testify, no one can heal the dead. He feels he has failed not only himself, but the one person he would do anything, anything to protect.

Anders looks up and feels that he is being held, feels the tears from his eyes and sees Marian looking at him. He is awake. She tells him that it's alright, but he still feels the pain of his failure and the failure of Justice, though it was just a dream. He hates himself for dragging her down this dark road with him, for causing her pain. He knows he is too weak to leave, and he knows soon, very soon, he will die by her hands and Justice will be served. He cries, she holds him.
