Prologue

I present to you another story that just had to be written. This is just to prologue so it's actually pretty short…

Not exactly AU but there will be some different "concepts." Ages have been changed etc.

Oh. Alma's a girl. Just cause it works better that way, unless you guys want Alma to be a guy.

The atmosphere was heavy, Alma kept fidgeting in her seat and Kanda stared at his soba, not touching it. Today was a special day for them, they both knew it. When those that wield innocence turn 18 they are paired up with someone else that has the capacity to wield innocence, or got parried up with one of the staffs in the Black Order, usually that happened the most and it was considered an honor for them to be able to create another exorcist.

Recently in the last few years the Millennium Earl had started to frequently attack small towns, more Akuma started to show up and more people died. Towns were wiped out, it was worse when you were there to see it. We have been overpowered; the ratios had turned for the worst.

They brought the old tradition back, people where getting paired up again. They had stopped doing it a while ago when everything seemed to be going steady, but now that the Earl had more people than us, the higher ups thought it would be nice to "arrange" couples, so to say. Most of them were happy, but there were some rare cases where pairs just coupled and never spoke to each other again.

I glanced at Alma, she was fidgeting but I could tell she was excited. Kanda just had a blank look on his face, since growing up with him I could read his emotions at times like these, and he was obviously upset even if he didn't show it.

"Kanda and Alma please report to Komui's office, now."

I glanced at Kanda in a questioning manner since usually you just get an envelope the next morning of your 18th birthday, he just shrugged. Alma piped up.

"Probably just some mission lets go Kanda."

She grabbed hold of Kanda's hand and they left, leaving me alone to finish my meal. Kanda and Alma turned 18 today, they where 2 years older than me and where probably going to get paired up. Everyone knew they were going to be matched up and have healthy children, children who could wield innocence.

They were always close even before I came to the black order when I was 8, they knew each other since birth and where probably in love since before I even stepped into the picture.

Sighing I cleaned up, giving Jerry a thumbs up. That was our signal, the finders took out the streamers and we started to work.

"You guys know your at that age, today you turn 18 and its time you get paired up. Luckily for you it's someone you know."

Alma tensed up. I don't know why she was anxious since we both knew we were going to be paired up to each other. Komui reached for a vanilla folder under a pile of unopened letters and handed it to me. We just stared at it, for a moment I panicked, I wanted to leave. To yell at komui for making us do this. For not letting us chose.

"Don't be shy, open it up."

He made a gesture as if to give us permission. Alma snatched it from my hands, she practically tore it up, our eyes landed on the top.

"It has been determined that Yu Kanda and Alma Karma will have the most successful rate at producing an exorcist offspring. Congratulations."

Alma practically squealed. My stomach dropped. She lit up. I tried to smile.

Ohoho, seems Kanda isn't exactly all too happy. So what do you think?
