Eddie tried to contain the years as he banged his head against the wall by Sweets office. It didn't seem fair. No one wanted him. His mother wanted him in England forever. His father wanted him back in America next term. And he wouldn't even start on what Patricia-or any of the others would think.
Patricia was walking down the empty hall, once again, late for class, when she saw Eddie, miserable, banging his head against the wall.
"Eddie? Whats wrong?" she asked. He put his face in his hands.
"Hey, Eddie don't be sad."
She looked into his sad eyes, now feeling sad herself and embraced him.
"Shhhh. It's ok." she said in a calm tone as he sobbed into her shoulder.
Though Eddie was embarrassed that he was crying in her arms, he had no intention of letting her go.
"No one cares about me Patricia." he whispered into her hair.
"Yes they do! Why would you say something like that?"
"My mom doesn't want me, my dad doesn't want me, no one cares about me. They say they love me one minute but then they try to ship me out like this is some sort of game. They don't actually care about me. Nobody does."
"Not true." She started to rub his back. "Not true at all."
"No one cares. Nobody." he cried.
"I do." she whispered.
"You're just trying to make me feel better." She shook her head.
"No, I care about you more than anyone else on the world." She tightened her grip around him.
"You're so amazing, you know that?" he whispered into her ear. She shrugged.
"I guess, I was only being honest." He let got of her.
"Thats sweet, really Patricia. Thank you. It's just, it feels like no one ever loves me. Not for long anyway. I don't get it."
"Take it from someone who's always been the second best, it sucks." Eddie chuckled.
"You're not the second best, if anything, you're the better twin."
"Oh don't lie to me. It won't make a difference, it doesn't hurt my feelings, I'm totally used to it."
"At least you have a lot of people who love you."
"So do you."
"Not really."
"Well," she sighed, moving closer to him. "You've at least got one person." She brushed her lips against his, and he pulled her in close kissing her back. They may not have their family, but at least they have each other.
