Maurice sighed as he made Julien his mango smoothie. Everyday, it was "do this" and "do that". Maurice always wondered why he even asked for the job. Why he walked up to Julien on his crowning day and asked to be his assistant. But Maurice knew why. He knew why and he punished himself for questioning it.

He looked at the King and a wave of warmth spread through his entire being. That's was the reason. Ever since Maurice first saw the King, when they were both children, Maurice felt that warm feeling go through him and the happiness that followed. Maurice thought there was something wrong with himself. All the other males were following the girls around, not having warm feelings for the Prince. Maurice would always be in the front row at royal announcements, just so he could see the Queen's son.

Maurice walked up to Julien with his smoothie. Julien took it from his paws, sipped and smiled.

"Aah... Maurice. I am glad I had chosen you as an assistant. You are to be making de best smoothies ever," Maurice opened his mouth to say something but Julien continued talking. "That is why I ask for them everyday. It can be annoying can't it? I hope you are not feeling anger with me,"

"Oh, your Highness, I could never be angry with you. It who you are. I've grown to love it," Maurice gave a smile to Julien who smiled back.

"You are loving me?" Maurice felt his face grow hot.

"No!... I love you for being you... Wait! I love your personality... Yes, your Magesty," Julien laughed.

"Of course! Everyone is to be loving me!" Julien jumped to his feet and kicked Mort as he walked away. "Now, if I could be getting Marlene to admit it..." Maurice felt his body slump. He didn't know why since he discovered years ago that there was no mutual feelings.

"It still hurts," Maurice would tell himself. Maurice straightened his posture. He may feel bad about not being loved by Julien but being his best friend was good enough.
