The One-Eyed Boy

Disclaimer: I don't own Lord of the Flies or Kuroshitsuji

This was an assignment for English that I had to post. It's not very long.

MANY THANKS TO MY BETA, EquestrianGuard

Boys emerged from all sides as Ralph continued to blow the conch, seating themselves among the fallen palm trees. Piggy did his best to pick through them and memorize names and faces as more and more of them poured in and formed a crude half-circle. The trickle of bodies slowed, then stopped. Just as Ralph opened his mouth to speak, Piggy poked his arm and pointed in a seemingly random direction.

A one-eyed boy stood at the treeline motionlessly. Ralph remembered him being on the plane. The boy wore a royal blue cloak with the easy air of the wealthy and carried a dark cane loosely in his hand. He didn't look hot or uncomfortable or even scared. He was perfectly at ease on this unregistered island that held no adults and no hope of rescue.

Ralph waited for him to join the half-circle, but the one-eyed boy simply stood by the trees and crossed his arms.

"Come on and join us," Piggy shouted. He waved an arm in a beckoning motion.

The boy turned his head and looked into the forest. He began speaking. Ralph couldn't hear what he was saying, but he looked annoyed. Eventually, the boy uncrossed his arms and began to glide towards them, his cloak billowing around his feet.

"Great," someone muttered, "he's like Simon. Talkin' to stuff that isn't there."

The boy stopped in front of Ralph. He looked around at the rest of the boys with a coldly superior gaze, as if they weren't even fit to crush under his boot, and said nothing. Jack cleared his throat.

"Who were you talking to?" he asked.

The boy scowled. "A mangy mutt," he said. A pair of red eyes flashed in the distant treeline, but Ralph blinked and they were gone.

Piggy squirmed uncomfortably. "Okay. What's your name, then?"

The boy planted his cane firmly on the ground and lifted his chin importantly. "I am Ciel Phantomhive, Guarddog of the Queen, sole heir of the Phantomhive fortune and head of the Funtom company."

Piggy nodded even as he took several steps back. Ralph elected to ignore the newly-named Ciel as Jack spoke. "I think we should vote for chief."

He sputtered when Ciel laughed quietly to himself. The cloaked boy turned and began to walk away.

"Wait," Ralph called, "Where are you going? You'll get yourself killed!"

Ciel sneered at the group over his shoulder, his amusement soured by annoyance. "I have never had the desire to play chess with those who don't possess the pieces," he said.

Jack summed it up best for them. "What?"

Ciel scoffed derisively, and then apparently elected to ignore them completely as he swept off into the forest.

He paused at the treeline and the red eyes from before flashed again. Ralph prepared to cry a warning, but the boy saw them.

He saw them and smiled.

(They learn to fear the one-eyed boy, who always watches from above in times of savageness and depravity, whose quiet laughter rings in the spaces that the dead used to fill).

(They learn to avoid the red eyes always glinting in the shadows next to him, the aristocratic chuckles adding a low timbre to the boy's laughter).

(They learn that the word beast can also mean human).
