She watched in horror as the Demon Sword came down and sliced Soul across the chest diagonally.
Over and over again she had watched this scene play out. And it always ended the same, with him bleeding out in her arms, and the Demon Sword finishing her off soon after.
She woke up with a gasp, sweat covering her and soaking into the sheets. Kicking them off hurriedly, she jumped out of bed and ran down the hallway.
She had to know. Had to know that he was still alive, still ok, still here.
Slowly opening the door, she stuck her head in and looked inside the room. It was too dark.
Opening the door further she took a step inside the room, towards the bed. Walking slowly, she leaned over and looked at him. Just seeing him there, sleeping peacefully, quieted her fears.
Knowing she couldn't bare to go back to her room, she pulled back the sheets and slipped into bed with him.
Relishing the closeness and warmth he provided she snuggled closer, slowly falling into a deep dreamless sleep.
As Soul woke up the next morning, he rolled over and was surprised to find his small, sleeping, partner lying next to him.
Realizing that she must have had another nightmare, he quietly slipped out of bed and into the kitchen to make breakfast.
As she woke, she sat up and stretched, relishing the feeling of the warm sunshine on her face.
The next thing she noticed was that the bed she was sitting in, was not her own.
Remembering the dream she had the night before she slid out of bed and quietly padded into the kitchen. Only to find Soul, standing at the stove making pancakes. He looked up, noticing her presence, and smiled.
"Well look who's finally up."
"Good morning to you too," she said dryly, turning away to grab a glass and get some orange juice. Heavy silence followed as he continued to make breakfast, while she went about setting the table.
"Did you have the dream again?" He said quietly, breaking the silence.
"Yes," she replied softly, setting down the glass she had in her hand.
"You know you can talk to me about it right?" He said turning around to face her. The look in his eyes showed how worried he was. Feeling guilty for causing him to worry, she sighed and plopped down into the nearest chair.
"Of course I know I can talk to you Soul, it's just that even talking about it causes, oh I don't even know what to call it. Emotional pain maybe? And I'm not sure I can deal with anymore of it right now." She looked down at her hands, scared he would be upset, seeing as he always asked her to talk to him after she had a nightmare and she always refused.
She jumped a little when she felt him place a hand on her shoulder.
"Hey, it's fine ok? When you wanna talk just come find me and we'll work it out together."
She slowly looked up at his face and saw how much he truly meant his words.
"Ok," she replied, nodding her head.
Seeming satisfied with her response, he turned back to the stove. Grabbing a plate he walked over to the table and set down the pancakes.
"Here you go. Hurry and eat or else we're gonna be late for school." He said as he quickly took two and put them onto his own plate.
"That's funny, since I'm the one usually telling you that." He just gave her a look and continued to eat his pancakes.
