A/N: HEY GUYS!!!! Here is the re-written first chappie of my story!! Not much has changed, just more detail.

CHAPTER ONE

"You called me Principal Roku?" Katara asked. She entered the office slowly, just incase it was a mistake and she'd have to go back to class.

She knew she hadn't been called down to Principal Roku's office because she was in trouble. A girl like Katara does not get in trouble.

"Yes," Principal Roku said from behind his desk in his old, wizened voice. "According to your school records and report cards, you have been a straight-A student all through your school career. Is that correct?"

Katara nodded. She knew that already. Why had she been called down? She prayed it had nothing to do with her brother.

"Have you ever thought of peer tutoring?" the principal asked her. Yes, Katara had thought about it. Her teachers last year had kept pestering her about it, but she had decided to focus on her studies and less on extra curricular activities.

"Not really," she replied. Principal Roku stroked his long beard, which made him look less like a high school principal and more like Albus Dumbledore.

"It would be a very good thing for you; it would look good on college applications." He thought. "Give the idea some thought," advised the Principal.

"I'm sure you already help your brother as it is!" Principal Roku laughed at his own joke. More like do his homework, Katara thought sourly. Instead she gave a small laugh, itching to get back to science class. She wondered how Aang and Toph were doing without her.

Katara waited for the Principal's laugh-turned-cough to subside. Once it had, his face turned serious again.

"Think about it," Principal Roku said.

Katara took it as her cue to leave. "I will, Principal Roku. Thank you."

Zuko made his way through the crowded hall, eyes cast downward.

He wasn't one of the popular kids. To be popular you needed friends, and that was a thing Zuko certainly lacked.

Two years before Zuko had entered high school, a fire had destroyed his home. It had also killed his mother.

Unfortunately, the fire not only emotionally scarred him with the loss of his mother, but the fire had left a permanent mark on him, surrounding his left eye and ear.

Rumors had flown surrounding him of how the scar came to be, his lack of social abilities, why he kept to himself. There were the usual rumors: cutting, drugs, suicide. Everyone once in a while ludicrous ideas would surface about his mother, the fire and his scar.

After a while the chaos surrounding the event had subsided, and Zuko had been branded the emo of the class, and that was that.

As he put in the combination to open his locker, his math teacher approached.

"Zuko, you failed the test today," she informed him. He continued to rummage through his locker.

"If you fail the next test, you fail the quarter. You could fail the year," she said gravely. "That's bad Zuko."

No shit, Zuko murmured under his breath.

The teacher took the silence as an excuse to keep talking. "I want you to give this to your father." She handed the envelope in her hands over to him. "I want him to sign this and to call me about it. Okay?"

"Yeah," replied Zuko. He slammed his locker shut and walked away.

A/N; what'd you all think?! Review!!!

P.S. did anyone see the video from the comicon? There was a preview of Season 3. It was awesome, except for one thing (gr-maiko-gr!), but I won't spoil it for you, if you haven't seen it.
