STRANGER THINGS: IT CAME FROM THE SEWER

Fear and Hate will always seem small next to Love and Courage

Prologue: The Vanishing of Georgie Denborough

October, 1984

It was a cold rainy day in late October when It first awoke that year. The first victim had been a seven-year-old boy wearing a yellow rain slicker and yellow goulashes. His name was George Elmer Denborough. But everyone called him "Georgie". He had been chasing a paper boat they said. He hadn't snatched. He couldn't have been. Nobody had seen anyone strange that day. Nobody had seen anything that seemed suspicious. No. At first they thought that the boy had simply wandered away.
"He'll be back in a few days."
But he never was. The last person who had seen the boy was his thirteen-year-old brother, William. The boy they called "Stuttering Bill". Some said that his brother had killed him. But most knew that Stuttering Bill had been sick in bed for days and that he loved his brother more than anything else in the world. Others thought that Little Georgie had been swept under the sewers by a storm. All that anyone knew was that the little boy had last been seen chasing a paper boat into the sewers. No one seemed to fully suspect the truth. Nobody suspected It. Nobody suspected the thing that came from the sewers.
