Lone Traveler
Watch the sun sink
Behind a hill
Gaze contentedly at the moon
Which reflects tomorrow.
Wherever I go,
I can't escape you.
Leave my footprints
In the sand
Luxuriating in my solitude.
Set my solemn stare ahead
And focus on the future.
Apprehensive feelings course through me,
Not ready to face my fears.
Never once do I turn my head,
To see the past behind me.
The shadows look conspicuous,
Slithering across the dunes.
My horizon seems imploring,
Asking when I will arrive.
It chastises me for being late.
The wind picks up emphatically,
Dust churns all around.
Instinctively, I cover my eyes.
Lethargy sweeps over me,
Volunteering me to sleep.
I stop to rest,
For night has come.
My eyes close, and I smile.
There's no need to hurry, no need to rush.
A journey always waits.
