Until the Darkness Rises

Once Professor Dumbledore turned his back Tom smirked. If only that old fool knew. But he had nothing with which to prove anything. Dumbledore had nothing but his suspensions and they were vague at that. After all Tom was beyond careful in his activities. He was the perfect student so none of the other students or teachers were given any cause for doubt. Even after that disaster with the basilisk he was still in the good graces of everyone but that fool Dumbledore.

Tom kept late nights, his only company that of old musty books in the still library. In the cold silence of the night were harsh whispers. Whispers of plans made secretly in the dead of the night. The plans he had for the wizarding world. Tom spent hours immersed in the restricted section books learning the long forgotten Dark Arts magic. It wasn't hard to convince one of his professors to write him a note of consent for the books. It was there that he had found the very beginnings of his plan.

The biggest flaw in his plan was Tom's own mortality. It would not do to become Lord if his reign would be a limited one. Tom had no desire to die. One book in particular gave him a solution. It involved the breaking of his soul and placing the pieces into an item. A horcrux it was called. He spent long hours in the library reading on how to do the spell. He made the first of the horcrux late one night before the final feast. He used the journal that Professor Dumbledore gave him. Ironic how the one wizard that tried to find out his secrets only served to help him in his quest. Tom also planned to use a snake for another of the horcrux. After all he was Slytherin's heir and the serpent was Salazar's symbol.

He was anxious to stop hiding his ambitions in the shadows. But Tom was patient. He would bid his time and his powers will grow. When he was ready he will launch his attack on the wizard population. He will make them fear the name Voldemort.

The darkness will rise and Voldemort will be Lord.
