A/N: This was something that popped into my head after thinking too much about Kei and Sho's relationship.

It was a bright, sunny day outside. The sun was shining, and there were no clouds in sight. Thus the reason that Kei and the twelve year old Sho were inside their small apartment, the curtains all pulled tightly shut. After all, it wouldn't do for Kei to turn into a pile of ashes, now would it?
Kei was sitting in an armchair in the darkest part of the room, reading some book or other, while Sho lounged on the sofa. Well, lounged wasn't quite the right word for it. Fidgeting and biting his lip while he swung his legs back and forth over the side was a much better description. He had recently streaked his hair blond (when Kei saw it he'd raised an amused eyebrow, then commented that it rather suited him), and had begun to grow it out. So he tugged at the ends of his hair while he chewed his bottom lip into oblivion, deep in thought.
"Is something bothering you, Sho?" Kei finally asked, looking at the boy over the top of his book. Said boy jumped, turning red in embarrassment.
"Um, no, not really…" he lied.
"Well, all right," Kei said nonchalantly, looking back at his book. If he knew Sho as well as he thought he did, than feigning apathy would work much better than trying to goad a response out of him. And of course, he was right.
"Why don't you call me Sho-kun?" he blurted out, sitting up straight on the couch. Kei raised an eyebrow and set his book down. Sho's face became a bright crimson color and he quickly looked away. "I-I mean…usually, when people are friends…th-that's what they call them…"
The vampire relocated to the couch, sitting down beside his young friend. "Does that upset you? That I don't call you Sho-kun?"
The boy shrugged, still refusing to look at Kei. "Sort of. I just…I was just wondering if maybe you didn't really like me all that much…I mean, I know you like me, but just not so much, you know? I mean…you're my best friend. But what am I to you?"
Kei frowned, rather disappointed that Sho would have to ask, but kept his voice quiet and gentle. "You know you're my dearest friend, Sho. Honestly, I always thought our relationship was too special for suffixes…but if it makes you feel better, I could start-"
In a flash, Sho's mood changed, and he hurriedly shook his head. "No! No way! Forget I said all of that, I'm so dumb!"
The blond laughed and was pleasantly surprised when the shorter boy wrapped his arms around Kei in a hug. "I'm sorry Kei. Forgive me?"
Kei ruffled Sho's hair, his face melting into one of his rare smiles. "Of course, silly. I was never mad to begin with. Although…"
Sho looked up at him, curiosity gracing his features. "What?"
"I think I like the sound of 'Sho-chan'. It's cute." He grinned wickedly at the blush that spread across Sho's cheeks as he covered his face with his hands.
"Kei!" he cried, embarrassed.
"I was only kidding."
