Harvey Specter doesn't do relationships, he doesn't do falling in love and moving in and committing to someone for the rest of his life. He's built for one night stands, a harsh, calculating bastard on the outside to keep himself at a safe distance from everyone else. So how did he get here, to Mike redecorating his condo?
It's really only a lamp, just a lamp. Nothing else, nothing big. Bought to replace the broken one in the living room. Built with dark mahogany wood, matching the side table it sat on innocently enough.
So why does Harvey have such a hard time accepting it?
Maybe it's because Mike bought it. They aren't even living together, but Mike had gone out and taken it upon himself to buy a new lamp for Harvey's condo anyway. For some reason, that scares Harvey. Their relationship seems too real now and, even if it is Mike and he loves him, it freaks him out a little. Just admitting in his head that he loves the associate scares him just a bit.
He feels bad about it, too, because Mike is so wonderfully eager and naïve and ready to be in a relationship and Harvey… Harvey is cold and hesitant and doesn't think he's ready to put his heart on his sleeve and give his all to someone like that. He's Harvey fucking Specter, remember? He doesn't do vulnerable.
And then Mike comes over, offers a warm hug and kiss, and suddenly their whole domesticated lifestyle seems more appealing. He almost welcomes it when Mike curls up next to him on the couch after dinner.
What was it about the associate that could change Harvey's mind like that?
He finds that he doesn't care so much about the lamp and its meaning anymore, realizes that it could be a good thing, and loses himself in blonde hair, blue eyed Mike like he always does when the younger is around.
Alright, so maybe Harvey fucking Specter does do falling in love. Maybe he does do moving in and committing to someone, but… Only for Michael Ross.
