I stand up and wait, the air becoming intense, the sun beating down on the court; this is my spotlight. I walk on, center stage, the crowd applauses and I raise my hand, the crowd cheers louder;
"ATOBE! ATOBE! ATOBE!"
I smile and raise the other hand, on cue they cheer:
"HYOUTEI! HYOUTEI! HYOUTEI!"
I point in another direction and the crowd once again cheers this time a combination. Slowly I bring my hands down and snap my fingers, the cheering stops. And all is quiet. The symphonic sound of the crowd has silenced as I take off my jacket. I gently pick up my racket and walk onto the court, my target in sight, my dance partner.
Our duet is about to start, and right now, all is quiet, they all wait in anticipation, in wonder, they know this is going to be a glorious show, a show that none has ever seen, and despite the intense air, I am filled with the confidence of my skill.
