This story takes place after the events in I Capture the Castle, and is told in a similar way. Hope you enjoy!

I write this sitting on the new mattress of the four-poster bed. It has now been a year since Simon left, and thirteen months since Neil and Rose left. Since then my sister has become a married woman, and is expecting a child within the next three months. Their lives in America seem so exciting compared to mine now. Although I have had several stories published in London magazines, none of them are so good to give me more money than 50 pounds a piece. Father on the other hand is doing better than ever. His book was released to considerable success a month ago. Now he is on tour in America, with our step-mother, Topaz. He, Topaz, Rose, Neil, and Simon are meet in California last week. I am once again alone in the castle. How dreadfully morose that sounds! I mustn't throw a pity party for myself. I hear some awful clunking. Mail.

I just arrived from the mail. A letter from Rose:

Dear Cassandra,

I just had dinner with Father, Neil, and Simon. I wore the gorgeous pink dress with the pearls that I told you about in my last letter. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a pair of shoes that matched it on time. Speaking of which, I found a pair of lovely green slippers which I think that you would look simply gorgeous in. Father looks better than ever, and people here ADORE the book. He is so happy to see us all doing so well. The baby has been kicking very hard these past few days! I miss you so, Cassandra.

I was about to send off this letter with the post this morning, but I have something else to add. Would you like to come and visit for the baby's birth? Everyone will be there, Mrs. Cotton, Neil, Simon, all of my new friends, and I can't imagine going through the process without you. Please visit, Cassandra. You know how homesick I get.

Love from your sister,

Rose

How could I say no to a pregnant lady, let alone my pregnant, homesick, sister? I feel the sudden urge to go and see my sister right now. I will send her a letter:

Dear Rose,

When should I come? How will I get from New York to California? Please write soon, as I must start packing. I cannot wait to see you.

Love,

Cassandra

On another note, Father and Topaz will be coming home soon. There is so much to do! Pack, write, and prepare for Topaz and Father to come home.

I have just received another letter from Rose.

Dear Cassandra,

You must come! We have all of the details worked out. Simon MUST be with Neil and I for the birth, so he will meet your boat in New York, and you both will come to us on the train. It won't take more than three days, and Neil will come and meet you both at the train station. Please come, I will not be able to bare childbirth without you.

Rose

I will go, and not just to see Simon.
