Restless

He could never sleep well.

Ever since that day last year, Sora tossed and turned in his bed every night, without fail. He would complain inwardly that it was too hot or too cold, too bright or too noisy, but he knew he was just making excuses for himself. It wasn't because of any of these things that Sora couldn't sleep – it was because he was heartbroken.

Ever since Kairi's death, he was afraid to sleep. He would have nightmares on queue every night, nightmares that included disturbing images of different ways she could've been slaughtered. The brunette knew what the cause was – just a simple accident. She'd drowned after being caught under her own overturned boat. But somehow, he just felt... guilty.

Sometimes he'd try his hardest just to lie down and go back to sleep. Sometimes he'd sit up and look at the stars through his window, thinking maybe she was looking down upon him. It was those nights that would always worry his mom in the morning, and he smirked at that, knowing that his loving mother would reprimand him about the bags under his eyes. And no matter how many times Sora would attempt to explain to her that he 'just can't sleep', she would always try to tell him that it wasn't anyone's fault, and then follow up with something clever and witty.

But this night, he decided to try something new and different. He swung his feet onto the floor and stood, padding very quietly over to his door and opening it with care. He tip-toed down the hall and stopped in front of the door he had been seeking. Moving very slowly, Sora creaked open this door and once he was inside, didn't bother to close the door again. After all, it would surely make a noise loud enough to wake the sleeping individual in that bed over there.

After successfully making his way to the bed, he very carefully lay down on it, praying that this person would not wake up. Too late.

"'N, what're ya doin'?" The sleeping (not-so-sleeping now) form inquired groggily.

"Shh, go back to sleep." Sora whispered, snuggling under the covers and wrapping his arm around his bedmate.

"D'nt touch me, 'm tired."

Sora could not suppress a rather noisy giggle this time. And this caused the other occupant of said bed to sit up abruptly, perhaps startled or perhaps just realizing from the half-sleep state that someone else was in the bed.

"Sora?"

"What?" The figure leaned down on elbows.

"What are you doing in my room? Or in my bed, rather?"

"I don't want to have nightmares. Can't I sleep with you?"

An exasperated sigh reached Sora's ears, and the figure resumed lying down next to the boy. Sora wrapped his arms around a waist, pressing his head against a warm chest. He felt the other start to gently rub his arms.

"Since when are you this affectionate?"

"Since I realized I'm lonely in my room all by myself."

His bedmate smirked and tenderly turned Sora around so they could pull the boy's back against their chest, putting an arm tightly around his waist, as if showing possession. Sora rested his head back against the collarbone and sighed in contentment, his eyes losing to the heaviness of sleep.

"Riku?" He asked a minute later, pulling the blanket tighter around them.

"Mm?"

"...I won't have any nightmares, right?"

There was a gentle kiss placed in Sora's hair. "Promise, love."

I needed a teeny tiny break from my Naruto fic, and I came up with this little short and fluffy number. :3 Enjoy!
