Moonlight streamed into the hut through the window, bathing the couple on the futon in its ethereal glow. A cool breeze blew across smooth skin, making Kagome sigh and snuggle closer to InuYasha's warmth.

InuYasha stared down at her and smiled at the peaceful look on her face. 'So beautiful...' He tucked a stray silky black curl behind her ear.

Finally, after so much betrayal, heartache, and death, she was his. Officially, completely, forever his.

Laying there, he wondered-not for the first time-what he'd ever done to deserve her. She was everything that was pure and good, kind and gentle in this world, and he was...just a half-breed that shouldn't even exist.

But amazingly, miraculously, she loved him because he was a half-demon.

It made absolutely no sense, but then again, Kagome herself was strange.

InuYasha loved her. Kagome was his life, but it still amazed him that someone like her could love someone like him, as much as she did.

His life had been hell. All he'd ever known since his mother died was scorn and contempt. All his life he'd been feared and hated for being what he was; something he had no control over.

For a small amount of time he'd known kindness and happiness, but those memories were tainted by betrayal and hatred. But even when it had been good, it was nothing compared to the way his miko made him feel.

She made him laugh, she brought him joy, and best of all: she accepted him completely, just the way he was. Hell, even when they argued, InuYasha was just happy to be around her. And every day since Naraku's defeat, he thanked every god above that he had her.

Yeah, he'd been through hell all his life, but having her with him made everything he'd gone through worth it.

InuYasha shifted slightly to get more comfortable, causing her arms to tighten around his waist. He smiled and kissed her forehead. She murmured his name in her sleep and his heart swelled with love. 'Keh. The gods owe me this. Kagome...'

He closed his eyes and fell asleep with a smile on his lips; she was his own little piece of Heaven.
