"I thought you said it was close?" Aaron said perching on a stump.
"It is close" Miles snapped.
"Yeah? You said that an hour ago and we're still walking." Aaron sighed. They had been walking for miles in search of food. Miles said he knew of a village near where they were. They had fought off many militia since they had started their trek to find food and now it was looking like they were going to die of starvation. Miles groaned, he knew it was around here somewhere.
"Maybe if we keep walking straight, we'll find it" Nora pitched in.
"More walking great." Aaron scoffed as he started heading straight. "If I don't get some food soon, I might have to become a cannibal." Around an hour later they reached the village Miles has spoken about.
"See I told you it was close"
"What now?" Charlie asked.
"We go ask nicely for some food."
"And if that doesn't work?" Miles ignored Charlie and headed through the village. No one paid much attention to them, which was good in their eyes. In the middle of the village there was an old building with town hall painted on the top. It was faded but you could still read it. Miles turned to the group.
"Me and Nora will go in you three wait outside and don't get noticed." Charlie watched as Miles went into the building.
"Let's see what else is here." Charlie said turning back towards the way they came. It was a calm village. It reminded her of the one she used to live in with Her Dad, Danny and Maggie. They were all gone now. She thought back to going out walking with Danny when they first got there. She never truly realised how lonely she was. Her mum wasn't dead, but to Charlie she might have well as been. She spent most of her life assuming her mum was dead. She didn't need her then and she didn't her now. Charlie walked towards some kids who were playing. She smiled as they ran around letting out playful cries, joking around without a care in the world. They had no responsibilities, not yet anyway. Charlie sat down and watched them for a bit. She wondered what life would be like if Neville and the militia hadn't come that day. If her father was still alive. Before she could think deeper about it she was stirred out of her chain of thought by Aaron shouting and a woman screaming.
"Charlie, I need some help over here."
Charlie got on her feet and ran over to Aaron. He was kneeling by a young boy who was breathing heavily.
"What's wrong with him?"
"He has asthma." A woman sobbed behind Charlie. "I think he's having an attack.
"What do we do?" Rachel said appearing behind Aaron.
"Well Danny used to get asthma attacks right? What did you do?" Aaron turned to Rachel starting to panic now.
"He only had one while I was still with him and we had his inhaler for that so I don't know. Do you have an inhaler?" Rachel said turning to the woman.
"No, this has never happened before."
"When Danny used to get asthma attacks Maggie gave him this herbal medicine."
"Do you remember what was in it?" Aaron asked.
"Who's Maggie?" Rachel quizzed.
"It was a special type of leaf, I can't remember its name but I know what it looks like." Charlie said ignoring her mother's question.
"Who's Maggie?" Rachel repeated.
"Do you think you could find it?" Aaron said continuing to ignore Rachel.
"Yeah I think I could."
"For the love of god who is Maggie?" Rachel shouted.
"Ben's Girlfriend!" Aaron snapped. Rachel went silent.
"I thought I told you guys not to get noticed." Miles growled.
