The first birds of morning twittering before the sun's rise. The scritch of a pen on paper. The sound of that voice you love so much. The sizzle of water hitting the sidewalk in summer. A familiar splatting sound echos in the recesses of darkness.
Startled, Akito swivels his head around, desperately searching for the source. Again, the noise occurs, this time closer and accompanied by a faint drumming sound. He twitches and begins crawling backwards.
A warm liquid drips down his face and he screams.

The loud ticking of a clock awakes the sleeping ruler. He gasps, the silence slowly fading. Rubbing traces of weariness from his ghostly features, he sits up and regains composure.
"Akito-san," Hatori whispers as he cleans his bloody eyebandage.
The drumming sound returns and the younger man cowers.
