Wendell smiled after he saw a stuffed alligator in a shop window. He admired the alligator's large eyes and toothy smile. He turned to his mother before she frowned.
''We have to buy food. Not toys,'' Mrs. Lewis said. She saw tears in Wendell's eyes. Her shoulders slumped before she walked ahead.
Wendell entered the store. He approached the alligator and took it. He ran out of the store. Wendell's eyes widened. He had to hide from cops. After lifting a sewer lid, he hid.
Wendell's worried mother searched.
*Mother.* The sewer was Wendell's new home. The Sewer King's home.
