When he was younger, Yong Soo aspired to be like Kiku; quiet, polite, always mindful of others. But being in second place for such a long time can change a person's perspective.
Yong Soo knows that Yao will never feel the same way about him. The binoculars he borrowed from Kiku, supplied the latest of a long line of evidence which proved that Yao didn't hold Yong Soo in the same regard as he did Kiku.
Yong Soo can remember as a child, vying so desperately for Yao to just look at him. To actually see what he was doing instead of pushing him aside in favor of cooing over Kiku and how perfect he is.
It's not like he isn't trying. Yong Soo isn't a quitter. And he certainly doesn't do things half-way.
Kiku was perfect though. Even after Kiku left Yao to forge his own future as an independent nation, Yao continued to praise and favor him over Yong Soo. And Yong Soo was still subject to not being good enough. Not being Kiku.
It was only after Kiku left Yao that Yong Soo got any sort of attention. Even then it wasn't enough. All that happened was Yao began to use Yong Soo to fill the void left by Kiku. Yong Soo was aware that he was being used, and for a while, it was nice. All of Yao's affections and attention were finally directed at him. That was, until Yong Soo would screw up and do something un-Kiku-like.
Yao didn't even care when Yong Soo split. He didn't care that he was the reason for the split. That it is because of him that Yong Soo was always internally fighting. And now every time Yong Soo wakes up and it is weeks later than he last remembered and there is a huge blank portion of his memory, he feels just a little slighted by Yao. Angry with him for being a bad hyung. For having chosen a favorite child, and holding the other to the same standards. For not caring for Yong Soo as he cares about Kiku. For ignoring Yong Soo's silent pleas for help as he tore himself apart.
Yong Soo should hate Yao, if not abhor him. And yet, after everything Yao has done to him, Yong Soo cannot stop loving him. Maybe it is because of remaining emotions from his mother Silla. No matter the reason, Yong Soo will continue to pine after and be used and thrown away by Yao.

A/N: I know this is really short. But I've always thought that the relationship between Korea and China is very compelling.
Hyung - older brother in Korean
Silla - One of the 3 ancient kingdoms in Korea, it allied itself with Tang Dynasty China and eventually conquered the other 2 kingdoms of Korea.
Ahh! And thank you TheTickTalks for reading through this. And many thanks to Walroose for also proof-reading and for helping me out with the word order concerning a few sentences. Perhaps you should go check out their stories, eh?
If you see anything I can improve on or something, please tell me. I won't hate you. Most-likely...
