Author's Notes: And yet another surprise Christmas gift! This time, it's for my dear Honourable Fool. She's been feeling rather down lately and I thought maybe this would help cheer her up. This little drabble was something entirely new and different for me. I've never tried to explore the relationship between Wufei and Meiran but I know there's a lot of untapped potential between those two. Sadly, no one ever wants to write about them. I don't mind Wufei/Sally but he was with Meiran first. At any rate, this little drabble doesn't exactly follow the Gundam Wing timeline so this is definitely an AU drabble. As you read, you'll see what I mean. By the way, this drabble has been beta read by the lovely PimpMastaPopo. Go check out her fics! Without further ado, happy reading and remember constructive criticisms are welcome!

Disclaimer: I don't own Gundam Wing or anything related to the Gundam Wing franchise.

Dedicated to Honourable Fool

She couldn't believe that she was stuck with someone as heartless as him. She would have been content living her life without ever having met him. Instead, fate had decided that she would marry an arrogant, selfish and useless fool.

He wasn't even worth her time or energy. Yet she continually found herself drawn to him. Everything he did either confused or fascinated her. He could defeat her in battle without breaking a sweat, but he preferred to read and study. He could be extremely sweet, gentle and loving when he wasn't being a smart ass.

What truly took her breath away about this man, however, was how he tried to understand her. In his own unique way, he wanted her to accept him both as her husband and as a man, but she would have none of it. She could care less if he spent time trying to learn about her family's history or culture. It didn't matter that he tried to include her in his life by discussing the finer points of war, honor and justice with her.

She especially didn't care that the first time they made love, he was very careful and tender with her. Never mind the fact that they were both clumsy and had no idea what they were doing.

She just didn't want to believe that maybe, just maybe, she hadn't been shortchanged with Wufei after all. Behind that scholarly mask was the heart of an understanding and kind man. He never intentionally went out of his way to hurt her or belittle her. Most of the time, he chided her only when he thought she was being foolish.

Somewhere along the line of their rocky relationship, she managed to fall in love with him, but now it was too late. Her illness would claim her long before their relationship could ever truly blossom into anything beyond friendship. She would only be lying to herself if she said that she wasn't afraid.

Now that they were finally beginning to understand one another and perhaps even love one another, she would be taken from him. As much as they were both loathed to admit it, they had to be ready to deal with whatever fate had in store for her. In her heart, she truly wanted to stay by his side and test his strength until she was old and gray, but it was not meant to be.

She could only hope and pray that should she die, he wouldn't lose himself completely.
