"Danny, wake up!"
Daniel Fenton bolted upright in his bed. "What is it!?"
His wife sighed. "It's nine o'clock in the morning, that's what it is!"
The young man rubbed his eyes. "Humph…I thought something was wrong…"
Sam Fenton shot him a smirk. "I know you like to sleep in, but this is pushing it. We aren't teenagers anymore."
Danny tilted his head. "…your point being…?"
She gave her husband a look. "We're adults now, Danny. It would be one thing if we didn't have any responsibilities-"
"I know, honey, I know. I just like to get a little extra sleep when I can."
Sam Fenton chuckled. "Hey, I like sleep as much as the next person. However, we do need to get the house ready."
Danny smiled, saluting. "Yes, ma'am!"
Sam smirked. "That's more like it. First thing's first: what color to make the new room?"
He shrugged. "You know me, babe. I'm more investigative than decorative."
Sam sighed. "I know. I just want you to be good with the way it looks in the end. And don't say you'll be fine with whatever I pick out, because we both know how that went the last time…."
"Heh…touché." He thought for a moment. "Well, why not make it light blue? That way, it's a color that fits both of them."
His wife blinked. "Not intuitive, eh? Coulda fooled me!"
He winked at her. "I learned from the best."
She winked back. "You sure did"
Danny stretched out in the bed. "So, how long have you been awake?"
"Oh, a few hours, now. I made myself a little omelet and a glass of V8. And yes, I know the danger of eating undercooked eggs."
"I wasn't going to say anything. I know you're very careful with yourself."
"Of course I am. Though, I guess I wasn't quite ready for how I'd be feeling."
"Heh…is anyone when they're in a situation for the first time?"
"True. However, I meant more the…extenuating circumstances."
Danny's skin lightened a few shades. "…it isn't anything serious, is it?"
Sam sighed. "No, no. Nothing to be too concerned with. Just…well, like I said. Unexpected."
"Well, we are in uncharted territory here."
"…Right." Sam brightened. "Oh, my, I'm so anxious!"
"…you need to sit down?"
Sam arched an eyebrow. "Me? Sit down?"
Danny just shrugged. "Heh. I know it's not in your nature, but it may help."
"Oh, alright." Sam slowly lowered herself into the recliner.
"I'm a bit…curious myself, actually. They're more than likely going to have some of my…traits, it'll just depend on which ones."
"Of course, dear. As you know, every child picks up something from either parent"
Danny's eyes narrowed. "Very funny, honey. You know what I mean."
She shrugged. "Eh, so what if I do?"
The young man got himself out of bed and headed for the shower. "What's it like outside?"
His wife's face brightened. "Beautiful, dear! The birds are singing, the sky is clear!"
"…the sky is…clear?"
Sam gave a little pout. "Relatively speaking of course. You know as well as I do we'll never be completely free of the smog."
Danny smirked. "Of course."
"Now…what would you like for breakfast?"
"Oh, no. I can get my own meal, thank you very much. I do not need another lecture from Jazz about my "forcing a pregnant woman to over-exert herself in a time of vulnerability".
"…good point."
"I'm going to jump in the shower, then I'll make myself a bagel sandwich, or something. You, stay put."
Sam shot him a half-joking salute. "Yessir."
Danny smiled. "That's more like it!"
As her husband headed for the bathroom, Sam made her way to the bed. Soon, she heard the water of the shower, accompanied by Danny's singsong voice. She smiled, "Always the crooner."
