This is my first attempt at Arrow fan fiction, so I hope it doesn't completely suck. It's just something short that takes place after the finale, hope you guys like it!
He said that he loved her. No one could be that great of an actor, she really believed that what he said was true. But this was Oliver Queen, and it just wasn't possible that he would ever love her in that way. He was in love with Laurel and Sara; Felicity just couldn't compete with them. She was just his partner in crime, that was all. It hurt that Laurel was now let in on the secret, but she would just have to accept that the other girl would always be a part of his life. No matter how much it killed her.
"Earth to Felicity, are you in there?"
She jerked out of her reverie at the sound of his voice. "Sorry, what?"
Oliver rolled his eyes. "I've been trying to get your attention for the last ten minutes. What were you thinking about?"
She shook her head, giving him a small smile. "It's not important; did you need my help with something?"
"No, I was going to tell you to go home. Now that Slade is no longer a threat, I think we could all use a break. You spend too much time here; you should be out there having fun."
"Being here is fun for me; I don't have much of a life." She silently cursed herself, way to make him realize what a huge loser she was.
He smiled. "I highly doubt that. Would you like to get some coffee with me? It's my treat."
Felicity was surprised that he was asking her out on a date, although it probably wasn't to him. "Sure, that sounds good."
"I still think it was pretty cool how we caught Slade. Your plan, it's like you knew exactly what he would do. I just keep thinking about how serious you were in the mansion, what you said, you were so convincing." She wished she could stop talking, but her mouth didn't have a filter at the moment.
Oliver smiled, taking her hand in his that was lying across the table. "You made it easy, but I'm sorry for putting you in danger. It seems that's all I've done since the day we met."
She shrugged. "I'm just as much to blame. If me being bait gets you the bad guy in the end, then it's all worth it. Besides, you're always saving me, one of these days I hope to return the favor."
He released her hand, but not before giving it a squeeze. "You've already done that." Oliver took a deep breath before continuing. "I have a confession to make. The reason why I was so convincing is because I wasn't lying. I do love you, Felicity."
She was stunned, that being the last thing she expected to hear. "As a friend, right?"
"Yes, right now that's all it can be. I have too much baggage to be in a healthy relationship. It's easier to be with someone that I have no future with, no strings attached. As much as I care for Sara, I knew there was no hope for us. She knew as well, that's why she left. I've screwed up so badly with Laurel that things could never go back to the way they were. You're the most important person in my life right now; I would never want to do anything to ruin what we have. But just know that I meant what I said, maybe someday things will change and there will be a chance for us. I just hope by then you won't be married with a couple of kids."
Felicity laughed, wiping the tears from her eyes. "There's probably no chance of that. I can wait for when you're ready, it's not like I'm going anywhere."
He stood up, placing a kiss on her cheek before sitting back down. "You're remarkable, Felicity Smoak, but I have a feeling you won't be waiting for long. I was never known for my patience."
She smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear that came loose from her ponytail. "That works out nicely then, neither am I."
Oliver returned her smile; he had a feeling that he would never be bored with this girl at his side.
