A Best Friend
I waited for the arrival of my best friend Momo for what felt like a decade. What could she possibly be doing?
"Momo, we have waited for our time to end, and mine has ended earlier then expected," – I was murdered, sadly- "it shouldn't be long until my dead soul attracts the shinigamis."
I replayed the scene of our good bye over and over.
"Okay," she was beginning to cry, the thought of not seeing my best friend for a long time was excruciating. "I will follow you to Soul Society soon, now that ...school...is…over…" she couldn't continue. As much as she loves her friends and family, she was longing for a change.
In truth, only three years passed. Was it enough for her to change her mind? I sighed and went outside. I usually take a walk outside to help me relax. I was walking by the wall that separated the Rukon District and Sereitei when I noticed a man walking in circles around a grave. It seemed like he was thinking about something hard. He heard me walking and turned around. There was a tattoo, the number 69, on his left cheek bone. Over all, a very good-looking guy. He was dressed like a shinigami, so I wondered if he could help me.
"Can you help me with something?" I asked.
He looked puzzled, "sure, are you lost?"
I shook my head, "no, actually, I wanted to know if you can help me find someone in the human world."
The man seemed to think about this before he answered, "Okay, I need all the needed information on this person. Who is she or… he, where does she/he live, and a picture if you have one-" he paused then added, "I'm Hisagi Shuhei, by the way."
I smiled, "it's nice to meet you Hisagi-san, thank you. I'm Rukia."
Hisagi-san took me to the Research and Development lab so I can show him Hinamori Momo and he can find her. When he had all the important information, I wished him luck and watched him walk away.
I waited.
When he came back, he was looking down. I didn't like the expression on his face.
"What is it?" I asked worried.
He took a deep breath before he answered, "She had this tucked under her pillow for a while, and" he gave the opened envelope to me, "she's been meaning to give it to you for a while."
I opened the envelope and began to read it:
Dear Rukia, my best friend,
I am sorry. Truly sorry. For I have broken my promise. I was suppose to go to Soul Society only a month after you left, I had it all planned out. But when I was crossing the road, someone saved me. His name is Hitsugaya Toshiro. I'm sorry Rukia, because now I sit writing this letter while the baby in me moves. Please forgive me and continue with your dream. Become a shinigami, follow our dream. I will not say good bye because I promise you I will see you again. So thank you, Rukia, for everything.
Your BFF,
Hinamori Momo
I wiped the tears off my face. I missed Momo a lot. But I will wait. I am happy for her, so I won't argue. She has a family now, and I will just have to wait.
Tick. Tock.
